would you uproot family for 6 months?

Would I? No. Definetly not. But I don't do well with change, so a growing child is enough of an adventure for me.

But the question is would you? What was your first reaction? Cool? or Heck no? Go with your gut. If it sounds good to you, go for it.

Definitely! And I would do it even if the kids were older, too. My family moved temporarily for my dad's academic sabbaticals when I was 8 and when I was 13, and both times it was a great perspective-changing experience for me (although I was pretty mopey about it when I was 13).

Hi,
I hate to be a Debbie Downer but this is the sort of thing that sounds great in theory... I've done it 1/2 dozen times (primarily for longer periods) and can say that while I don't regret any moves it's easy to say "do it" from the outside and a much bigger decision when it's you. It's WAY harder with kids, for the reasons others have mentioned. Given the way you are talking about it and not knowing you I say go for it, but child care availability (and the Netherlands are tricky here) is a BIGGIE. So is takign your kid to a new environment and then back again- just when he's adjusted you will change his life dramatically. SOme kids, and some adults, do better with that than others.
Again, don't want to be a downer but it's important to think about the day-to-day once this happens. As the pesrorson at home - even if you are working - you will be the caretaker until you find a good option. That can be really difficult,. Would suggest as much time off as you can when you first arrive to get settled and whatevr transitional assistance your husband's company can provide.

Go! It isn't like you are uprooting to Germantown, or some other outer suburb. This sounds great!
