Go go go!!! We have friends who went abroad with young kids -- in both cases it worked out great.

Sounds like an amazing opportunity! You're not moving there forever, it's only six months. Do it!

If I could figure out childcare while there, I would do it in a flash. My single parent working mother friend was in Sweden with an infant and could not find childcare there since mothers could stay home with the baby. Had a friend in Switzerland with the same problem for her under 3 son and it took a long time to find a nanny and she had to ask her MIL to take care of him for over a year.

I think you have to think about when you would be able to work if you can't line up childcare.

OP, check out talesmag.com for possible information and resources about childcare in the Netherlands. Good luck!

absolutely. what a great experience for your kids, and the netherlands are just lovely. you may never come back! your children would also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a different language, not to mention just about everyone speaks near-perfect english if needed.

Absolutely! We did it for several years, but I would do it again short term as well.

I think I'd go for it! The kids will forever get to brag about living in Europe when they were young. (I get a kick out of telling people that I got my first passport at 8 months because we lived in Europe for awhile till I was 2 or 3.)

Yes yes yes! I still wish I could but it definitely feels a little more complicated once the kids are in elementary school and involved with ongoing activities like sports, camp whatever. Go now! (But good point from the PPs about figuring out childcare.)

Yes - this sounds great. I would definitely do it. With any luck the project will be extended a bit - six months IS a bit of a short time in my mind to completely relocate (by the time you get into the swing of things it'll be time to move back home) but what an opportunity.

In your case, you bet!

i'd let a poor child in your church/community attend school while you pay for the spot.

Do It! We are attempting to do the same thing (different country) with a school aged child and it gets much more complicated once they are school aged plus our other difficulty is dealing with the house while we are gone short term. We also have to pay for housing there and our mortage here so financially its going to be tough if we can't find renters. With that said it will be an exciting time for the whole family.
