I have a Macbook Pro and it did take me a few days to get used to this at first... it seemed really odd after a lifetime of using the 'right-click'. On a Mac, a one-finger click is the same as left-click on a PC and a two-finger click is your right-click. It seems foreign at first and now I don't even think about it. I use a PC at work and I can do both seamlessly now. |
They still sell PC laptops? And people buy them, and use them?
Just kidding - but I LOVE my mac. And apple in general. |
Haven't had time to read the whole thread but wanted to say, OP, that your story reminds me of my laptop decision and my dh pressuring me to buy a Mac. I really dithered a long time over it and decided to buy a cheap Dell laptop because I wanted to save money and it would have cost a whole lot more to buy a Mac and equip it so I could run PC programs from work on it.
But along the way I realized that I was really being whipped around by dh who just couldn't bear that I might make a decision on my own. (He has a very controlling mom and he thinks he is *not* controlling but guess again.) It took a lot of effort to make my own decision and OP I encourage you to make the decision for yourself. Buy what suits you and your budget. Go for it! Good luck! |
Wow, way to project your issues on the OP. Yikes. |
10:01 again. I'd agree, pp, except that she so clearly wants to buy a Mac and is talking herself into a computer that won't suit her as well as a Mac. |
This is the right-click person. Another question for the Mac users: Are you mostly artists/designers? I've always associated Macs with the graphic designers I know. Just wondering if it would be worth it for a writer type who mostly uses the computer for Word, Excel and Web stuff.
Also, I had heard that the Mac stores can be crazy busy, but it seems like the consensus here is that they are really useful. True? |
PP here again. Also, is it possible to "test drive" a Mac for a few days? |
I am a proposal writer. I got an iMac with a big screen where I can put up several document pages at once. I use Word for Mac because my office uses Word, and it's fine.
I adore my Mac and will NEVER go back. |
I have a MacBook at home and PC laptop for work. Personally I prefer the PC just because I'm used to it and all the programs and Windows 7 is actually real fast.
However I will never get a PC for home because of viruses. There is a whole IT team at work to keep my PC as protected as possible; don't have have that at home! |
fwiw you can use a regular right/left click mouse on the Mac. Helped me transition over from the dark side. |
All of you Mac lovers - what do you use it for? |
My smugness is greater than yours, for I use Fedora Core 13. |
Um - for things that require a computer? Working, web browsing, photo and video storage. And no, I'm not a graphic designer - Mac actually has a windows program and an excel program. |
OP here. Well, thanks everyone for so not talking me out of buying a Mac. (I actually did expect to hear from more than like two people who don't love Apple, but apparently I was mistaken.)
I'm off to the Apple store now. (Okay, no quite yet but practically.) |
I'm an attorney and we use Macs at work. I also have 2 Macs at home. I would NEVER voluntarily use a PC again. I use my home computer for all the "usual" computer stuff. I also like the Mac iPhoto, iTunes (which I know you can get for PCs). I don't have any virus issues with my Mac. And, have had no trouble getting software for it (which was a major down point several years back.) LOVE, love my Mac. |
