Another 30 year old here that hasn't heard of The Smiths. It seems as though maybe there are people here with a varity of music tastes. Imagine that.

Ignorance does not equal varity, let alone variety.

Get over yourself. Seriously, you sound like an ass.

And I'm assuming you meant "verity?"

Never mind, I see you're just mocking 22:07's typo.

So all you "alt/goth" ladies grew up to be just as bitter, just as childish, and just as intolerant of diversity as you were in high school? Cool. Sounds like you lead happy lives.

I guess I was just surprised that ppl who don't know The Smiths would bother posting in a discussion about The Smiths. If there was a discussion about The Kids on the Block, I wouldn't click on it or post in it -- not because I'm better than that, I just wouldn't see the point. Obviously it goes without saying that not everyone knows The Smiths.

But for all the fans who participated, tit has been fun remembering all the lyrics I sang along to in high school!!!

Wait, I'm confused. Is it The Smiths fans that are angry at the non-fans, or the other way around?

There seems to be this groundswell of non-fan backlash. Extraordinary.

The Smiths fans are angry at those born after The Smiths disbanded, those who prefer classical music to all other music, those who don't like alt rock, those who were born before The Smiths disbanded but have never heard of them... the list goes on. You can summarize by saying "The Smiths fans are angry with anyone who is not like them."

Hi, Smiths fan here, although not one of the argumentative ones. I'm not angry at all that you don't know who The Smiths are. In fact, I assume MOST people I meet don't know who they are. It gives me an air of exclusivity, it did in high school, too, but I'm certainly not mad at you. In fact, if there wasn't *pop* music and its accompanying fans(reissue, repackage, repackage), The Smiths wouldn't be as great as they were (are). I just want you to stop posting in The Smiths threads and feeling so defensive over it. We were having fun with the lyrics. Enough bickering already.

NP here. I'm not angry at all. In fact I've felt like I've been in a secret club all along, one that not everyone can be in. And if you don't want to be in it, that's even better. God forbid everyone else was like me and my fellow aesthetes (tongue firmly in cheek here). While everyone else was listening to Bon Jovi I had my Morrissey. He's the only man who's never disappointed me. And have you noticed how sexy he looks now that he's older?

A poster in the first thread clued me in to the fact that everyone was posting song lyrics of a band called The Smiths. I thanked him/her, because I the ended before I was born and I hadn't heard of them. I thought the thread was fun.

For that, bitter The Smiths fans called me culturally illiterate, a moron, and a Backstreet Boys fan (?).

I will post in whatever thread I like.

Hasn't he said some nasty racist things lately? I remember there was some reason I felt my childhood idol had deserted decency.

The section on his Wikipedia page entitled "Accusations of racism" is quite lengthy.

http://gawker.com/5630157/washed+up-morrissey-still-racist-still-worshipped

While looking this up, I found this quote by a music journalist: "For Morrissey's hardcore fan base, no matter what he says he can do no wrong."

I guess that explains it.
