Churchill Fight and Security

Or is it 400 or 4000 teachers...no matter...as long as a bunch of people get 200k per year and a company car.

You're right. I'm sorry. We should all send our kids to private school. Problem solved! How silly of poor me.

Don’t have children until you can provide them with an education where they are safe.

You’re a fool if you think you can guarantee safety

I think teachers fear getting injured in the fight!

It's Churchill. Most of those parents probably make more than you. No one would call Churchill an unsafe school. If anything this is a reminder that this stuff can happen anywhere. I went to a highly regarded DC private and it would have been easy for a teenager to get into the school.

Maybe, but in reality these types of events happen regularly in even in the best MCPS schools and don't happen in DC privates.

Eugenics! Of course! Right again!

Eugenics is about genes, not financial planning, honey.

This was not an average teenage fight. Some kids came from outside and interrupted class to fight another student, this is real life not Lean on Me.

When kids beat the crap out of each other everyone blames the teacher because it makes the schools look bad if we say students being criminals and admin and higher ups are ok with throwing teacher under the bus. We only devoted thousands of hours and thousands of dollars to make poverty level wage to be cussed at and threatened by children on drugs. Further, our expensive self sucking union is lame and unsupportive.

The blame for that falls on teachers. You choose your representation and what you want them to advocate on.

No so. Good people may be voted in but if systematic consequence/incentive structure sacrifice teaching and learning for false metrics.

If they actually spoke and taught about the unwritten rules such as all kids pass, no reporting violence etc, there would be way more lawsuits that the negligence lawsuits that mcps already pays alour tax dollars to.

That's because public schools are required to teach all students, pretty much no matter what. And if you step back, that's what you want in a public school-- a feature, not a flaw. I do think, though, that there's a real case to be made for an alternative school. Based on examples this year, there would seem to be enough students to support one. That school would presumably have much firmer rules and stricter procedures than most of us want for our own kid's school.

This was a planned attack. The kids knew where to find him and when to find him. Likely want to get him away from his friends.

Gang or drug involvement?
