“Radical Left” is not a thing - MAGA has been duped

Blah blah. No one is disagreeing that MAGA is awful. But to completely ignore how tone deaf and belligerent progressives were during the Biden era - whether on school boards or local government or at the federal level - is just putting your head in the sand. Hopefully Democrats learned a few lessons. People care about schools, public safety, crime, jobs, illegal immigration, health care, and other kitchen table issues. And progressives during the Biden years didn't. These were not Bernie Sanders progressives. These were gender studies at Oberlin progressives. And most Americans didn't share their priorities. Thus, Democrats lost.

I don’t understand how people can’t see this. Does no one remember this incident?

Of course we remember things like this.

But to your question, let's reframe it - You don't understand why people don't agree with you when you try to suggest that half of America needs to be demonized and held accountable for the actions of a dozen and a half randos at a protest?

DP. I should have read ahead - this is *exactly* the incident that comes to mind when I remember that time period. There were so many just like this, but this is the one that I'll always remember.

I don’t have any idea what you’re talking about because I never said that. My point is that people have not forgotten about these things and the right has convinced a significant number of people to hold it against the Democrats. I don’t think that’s logical or reasonable. I’m simply identifying the phenomenon.

Besides the “stolen” 2020 election, the “Radical Left” is the other big lie. The overwhelming majority of democrats are basically centrists. It’s not radical to want affordable healthcare for all Americans, reasonable gun control, treat immigrants humanly even while deporting illegal immigrants, treat non-white, non-Christian, non-straight, non-male people with dignity and equality, not murder American citizens who are protesting, expect billionaires to pay their taxes, expect Epstein’s pedo ring to be released, expect global diplomacy and no wars, affordability, etc. These are things Trump has made MAGA believe are radical and un-American. He is a master at propaganda, I’ll give him that.

However, the right is indeed radical, with Project 2025 and horrific concentration camps, destroying our global reputation, destroying public health systems, stripping affordable healthcare destroying public education, waging wars, letting prices soar while building golden ballrooms and Trump enriching himself and building monuments to himself. We are a laughing stock to the rest of the world. Yet somehow our own citizens are sadly duped.

Decades down the road, in hindsight, it will be shameful and inconceivable. Similar to that other period of time in that other country with that other evil guy we’re not allowed to mention.

In decades to come, the extremism of both sides will be recognized. The left is on the wrong side of history for many issues. Of course, MAGA is too. But this is not a period of time where the left will be seen as a force for good, overall.

Pro choice
Pro healthcare
Pro positive economic growth
anti-fascism
pro civil rights for all

Ya, these are horrible and on the wrong side of history.

Shrug. Not my fault if you aren’t capable of thinking.

Let’s pick one idea from the left: shutting down schools for two years at the behest of the teachers’ unions. We know now that was disastrous and did not save lives. This is not going to be remembered kindly.

Of course MAGA has their own bad ideas that will not survive the harsh view of history. But to pretend the left doesn’t have their own share is silly.

Shutting down schools wasn't a "left" thing and re-electing Trump wasn't a "right" thing. The people who did those things are the complete and utter idiots we all feel kinda sorry for.

Whose term did the school closures happen under? Trump's.

That period in a nutshell:

Agree, the Dem Party has lacked national leadership since Obama left office and it has really shown. The only reason there is light at the end of the tunnel for Dems is the Trump second term debacle giving Dems an easy road to election victories in 2026 and 2028.

If not for Trump, the Dem Party as we know it would be screwed and obsolete sooner than later.

DP. Let me turn that back on you. Are you one of the Democrats who *CONSTANTLY* calls people "MAGA" if they refuse to agree with you? I mean, seriously? This site is full of liberals who hurl that phrase (MAGA) at anyone who dares to express a different opinion, and often, it doesn't even involve politics! It's become shorthand for, "I don't like you and I don't like what you just said, so I'm going to call you 'MAGA' because I can't respectfully debate or express my own opinion."

People like that are absolutely always suggesting that half of America needs to be demonized and held accountable. Enough, already.

Of course, because that's all the right has anymore. Just lies, distortions, demonization and attacks. Sad that they can't be bothered to actually govern or come up with policies that help someone other than corrupt billionaire donors.

The entire premise of this thread is gaslighting. Of course there's a radical left. Pretending otherwise is simply playacting and wishful thinking.

PP. I agree. But the democrats can either lament the unfairness or they can figure out a strategy that works. But pretending that this phenomenon isn’t real and burying their heads in the sand isn’t going to accomplish anything.

For my part, I only call people MAGA when they use MAGA talking points rather than actually engaging in thoughtful debate. And by that, I mean they don't actually listen to the other side, and don't actually respond using facts or logic, or just go back to repeating the same distorted or non-factual MAGA talking point that someone already thoroughly debunked in the thread.

If you find yourself constantly being called MAGA then maybe you should bear that in mind and do a better job with your own debating. Debating doesn't mean just repeating yourself. But sadly that is exactly what 95% plus of the "MAGA" side of this site does.

Of course there is a radical left. Just as there is a radical right. But let's stop demonizing every single poster on DCUM as if they are part of that. The MAGAs constantly trying to pretend every single person on this message board who disagrees with Trump is a deranged blue haired untreated psychosis patient and trans person who wants to shoot ICE agents, have no borders, and force abortions and gay weddings on people who don't want or need them is so damn tiring. We're sick of having your grossly distorted MAGA worldview of "ThE RAdIcAL LeFT" pushed everywhere.
