Tyson’s mall is absolute chaos

No one goes there any more. Its too crowded.

Man, can we not? There are very few spaces now that don’t cost money to get into that you can just wander around for a few hours, especially for kids. You don’t have to be spending tons of money to be AT the mall. Window shopping with a drink costs about $5. Kids can be dropped off and stay safe, adults can walk with or without kids because there’s no cars and there’s air conditioning. Let people live damn.

You realize how ludicrous it is to put these two statements right next to each other don’t you

It's totally a gimmick but my kid loves the conveyor sushi place. That's our our default on one on mom and son day lunch spot.

Yes, that's the joke (and a very well known one too)

Tysons is smart by adding more restaurants. It gives people the option of a walk after dinner inside.

Yeah, PP sounds like Yogi Berra.

I would give anything for that big complex to once again be a place where:
1) Older adults could walk to stay healthy, strong and connected to one another
2) People could try on clothes, which cuts down on the environmental footprint of shipping and returns
3) People could have jobs, from makeup counters to jewelry stores to bookstores to coffee shops to restaurants to eyeglass shops
4) Creative spaces like art galleries, Paws at the Mall (ASPCA in the Annapolis Mall), kid-friendly museums and interactive exhibits could exist
5) Teens and tweens could hang out in a relatively safe environment, if they are responsible and can stay connected to family through their cells

Etc., etc., etc.

With people like OP, you can’t win. She’ll complain about “welfare people with no jobs” (then sneers at mall jobs); she’ll complain that “kids are always on the phone and don’t have real life friends” (then complain if they’re a little loud or clueless when they walk around); kids are inactive (then complains when they walk around with friends and—dare to exist, what with fashion choices and all); GAS PRICES OMG (never mind that people are saving gas and environmental footprint by trying on and buying in person).

Shut up, OP.

So many good points here. This is a lot of what is wrong with snooty DC society.

Do you want a safe place for older folks to walk, or don’t you? Do you want a safe place for teens to walk around and spend their allowance? Doo you want there to be restaurants and movie theaters nearby? Do you want people to be employed, or do you want yet more people to lose yet more jobs?!

If op needs to go to the mall, going to the mall is fine. If anyone else needs to go to the mall, it’s problematic.

While I agree it’s great that the mall is thriving and I’m really glad it’s there, I also agree it can be crazy almost claustrophobic when it’s busy. I try to go right when it opens.

The amount of people just milling around, stopping in the middle of the walkways, etc. was just overwhelming. If folks are concerned about money right now (with gas prices what they are) you’d never know it by how many people were out shopping.

And don’t get me started on the 10 year old girls I saw in full faces of makeup, acrylic nails, and highlighted hair…

This is why I default to shopping online and end up returning half the stuff I buy. It’s not good.

Does anyone really enjoy just going to the mall (especially when the weather is so nice?!?!).

End rant…

You shop online because you fear 10 year olds wearing makeup?

Oh, honey. There’s help for that. Seek it.

and returns in store thus ruining other malls so the 10 yr olds are not properly distributed.

Even when I get a spot in the hulking garage, I can’t find my car bc the signage makes no sense and every level looks the same. Ugh.

I get exactly the right visual.

I get lost too so I try to park on top and get a geolocation by triangulating the buildings visually. Apparently I'm an outside creature.
