American Select MD evaluations

My kid was MD Yellow last year, is MD red this year, did she get a lot better? No, it just worked out that way, and I told her if you made neither, it doesn’t define you.

It all depends on the year. For 29s and older, AA is the way to go. For 30s and 31s, it is still AS. AA for those years is for the girls who didn't make AS.
MD Yellow is sometimes as strong as MD Red. PP is right. DC-VA is the safety for girls afraid of not making Maryland because it's like 2 months earlier.

But is it worth the time and money? How is the competition in the B or C level?

MD res lost to DC-VA last year.
Most of the top MD players do AA.

Competition is okay - what year are you? That makes a big difference

While I do think this event is good there are definitely questions on how the selections are made.

If your daughter is a 2028 either team is worth the time and money. Coaches will be on the sidelines (although maybe slightly different level coaches) for both the MD Red and Yellow team. The evaluations are notoriously not very accurate so the two teams are typically pretty even. The Red team will likely lose most if not all of their games vs other top states who unlike MD send their top girls to AS, while yellow typically does better with the W-L record.

AA outside of MD and Lomg island are terrible, and due to that most top players will go to AS. Competition much better.

Regardless of the competition level the same coaches are at both events. There are less teams at AA (only 1 per region). Less teams for coaches to watch means a higher concentration at each game.
Long Island is really the only region who still sends all of their top players to AS. The AA Philly region team is mostly Triple H and some NXT, which are their top two teams and the Connecticut region usually has players from the top teams as well.

do they let you do video submissions for AS?

YJ helps run AS. They didn't need to go up to LI. They were just put on a team. Not a good team because they are only on team 3

I doubt it was all that easy. Likely a video tryout, but t's crazy the connections that club has. People say that LI does nothing for YJMA. Then when they show that they do, more doubters or naysayers. FWIW, the LI "B" team won the tournament last year in the A Division. Looks like two of the LI teams go into the A division and the third goes into the B division. All great competition in the A and B divisions.
