Why do all of these exams need to be right now when school ends June 17? I get that some kids are seniors and need to do them earlier but this is putting so much undue stress on the juniors and it is unnecessary.

For a school system that pretends to care so much about mental health, this is NOT a way to show that you care.

Troll. AP exams don't take an entire day. Mine took AP Lit in the morning, then went to her two afternoon classes.

And the AP classes are not doing tests, finals or learning anything these two week since half of the kids or more are missing due to AP exams, or leaving school after their tests.

That’s true but in DCs case she had a poster due last week for an AP class, just prior to that class’ AP exam. With the other AP exams last week, drawing a poster during this period was kind of stressful for her.

My sophomore had an in class writing summative the week before the AP exam. Unfortunately they just cannot stop for everything. The teacher did give a study period the class before the exam which was nice.

IMO the poster activity could have been done about a month before the AP exam period. I think the teachers intention was good, it was meant to be a review for the AP exam and reinforce the materials. The summative grade was based on following a rubric and effort put into the assignment. Late posters were going to be deducted points. I let DC stay home one of the days to work on the assignment.

A poster is not something to get upset about.

The teachers want to be done by end of May too.

The calendar is a farce.

I hate posters. They are so time consuming.

My kid was stressing over an AP History poster at 1 am the other night. A day before the test. Making a poster is not an efficient study method.

Not a fan of posters. But maybe if the students are presenting them, it is a review for all in the class?

I am the poster person. Again, I appreciate the teachers intent, a grade booster that reinforced the materials for the AP exam. The students did not present the poster to other students.

I only wish that it was due a couple of weeks before the AP exam and not the day before that particular AP exam, when there were SOLs and multiple exams going on with other subjects. She in fact had two AP exams the next day.

My daughter’s stress is heightened this year with AP exams because several of the colleges she’s applying have said they want all her AP scores as part of her application package. It’s not a matter of getting college credit for the class, it’s about getting into the colleges she wants.

The real issue is that FCPS has this stupid calendar that keeps kids in school through June.

Other states end with the AP exams.
other states start in the beginning of August too.

+1 the real issue is not keeping kids in until June. It’s assigning multiple projects, tests and quizzes near the AP exams.

ITA, why can't they be assigned after the AP exams since there are still 2-3 weeks of school left?

The earliest other states start is August 15, one week before fcps. Yet they manage to end almost a month earlier.

Because high school graduation starts early and seniors need to have had all the material and tests. So if there are seniors in the class, the end date is actually June 3 for our school. We have a June 4 graduation. I don't really understand why FCPS starts graduations so far before the actual end of the school year. My sophomore has 3 classes with a good amount of seniors so I imagine they'll be doing just about nothing from June 4-17. Great.

If a teacher is making this choice to assess knowing kids are taking SOLS and AP tests this week.....do you really think they care about a parent email Oh I know you just want to be rude. Got it

My 9th grader has had finals in the following: history, geometry and biology!!!!

It is bonkers. The calendar is bonkers. The teachers are bonkers.
