Really? That seems nuts. For all the time management crap they expect out of MS kids...

We saw this at our LI ES. Parents signed up for the LI program and then decided against it the day of the Open House, we saw the names posted on the door and then the kid wasn't in the class. I can see something similar at TJ that the student and parents are excited but as you get closer and the nerves hit some people change their mind. Or they go for the first week or so and quickly decide that they hate the commute and return ot their base school. Or they get cold feet when school starts.

And for kids who are on the wait list and really bummed that they were not selected, the year is still young so they accept the offer and don't miss much.

Honestly if a kid can figure out that he is in over his head that early in 9th grade, they have ice in their veins. It is sooooo hard to do.

how many kids are waitlisted even? does it pretty much end up being a pool of all AAP caliber kids that didn't get selected?

The kids coming off the waitlist is generally a bit more competitive and then the kids coming in as froshmores are even more competitive.

If your kid can't meet the relatively low standard of "AAP caliber" I don't think they would enjoy TJ.

I am guessing that the poster is assuming that they are more qualified then kids from the schools that only send there 1.5%.

TJ waitlist moves because of AoS/AET and other out of state private school admissions. By now most students have committed to their school
So very few spots become open.

I know a student who got in off of the waitlist a few days before school started. There are movements throughout the summer.

There are parents who try to convince their kids all summer to go to TJ and eventually give in and let them go to their base school. If a student is on the fence it makes sense to accept because they can always change their mind right before school starts, but once you reject the offer you’ve lost your chance. A family could move out of the area.

My DS came home yesterday with a smile on his face because one of his friends came off the waitlist for TJ. It is happening and I don’t think it is happening in waves.

You can always decline.
A lot of parents will accept initially hoping their kid changes their mind over the summer and then relenting at some point.
