If you make it miserable for a decent portion of hispanic legal immigrants, and some of them end up not getting treated, your whole plan blows up. Americans don't like negligence.
They can get all the treatment they want, it's their choice. They may just have to be detained, fined and deported after treatment. If they choose to continue illegal activity instead of treatment thats their problem. And they can always go home to their own country and get treatment.

Why should legal immigrants be detained?

We don't? Explain then, how the country is in its present mess. Maybe negligence isn't the same as incompetence but they are pretty close.

I don't think that a subprime home loan is the same as a human being who dies in a hospital waiting room because of paperwork. I get that both are bad, but you are kidding yourself if you think they are the same. When someone dies do to error, Americans get really, rightfully upset.

What about the more likely senario that a legal citizen human being dies in the hospital waiting room while an illegal is being treated. It should be noted the illegal has free (albeit substandard socialized) healthcare in Mexico.
Anonymous
By all means...give treatment...if no insurance, launch detailed investigation...if treatment is done, detain in separate area until insurance/citizenship is verified. If illegal deport and attempt to recover bills and expenses from relatives and check their citizenship as well if bills not paid.

Actually, I'm not sure that any states enroll illegal students. When right wingers talk about illegals and education, they are generally talking about u.s. citizens who are children of illegals. There is no way that the Federal government can prevent actual u.s. citizens from getting an education. If you want that policy changed, fine. But you have to get past the hostility if you want realistic solutions. Nearly every country on earth treats a person, whoever they are, if they walk into an emergency room. We even treat wounded enemy combatants who are captured on the battlefield. You just aren't going to win supporters if you take your policies too far.

It is illegal to ask a person's status when they enroll in a public school (at least in Virginia). All you need is proof of residency (a lease, etc) and your proof of immunization. I teach ESOL in FCPS and I know some of my students are here illegally.

Only if the patient is white and I am a WASP descended from a very lone line of them.

Long not lone.

They should be reported. I live in VA and I don't pay my taxes to teach illegals how to speak English so they can continue to abuse the system.

You obviously dislike the illegals. You have made that clear, post after post. But despite ample opportunity, you have failed to show any concern for legal immigrants. You have yet to offer a reasonable way to ensure that they are not stomped on in your quest to rid the country of illegals. Your lack of concern leads me to infer that you don't like immigrants of any type. Why not stop with the grandstanding and offer a proposal that does not infringe on the rights of legal immigrants?

I like the illegals but this country is broke and we need to start getting serious and back to reality. The moronic nonsense we've been practicing is not sustainable.it's all coming to an end....and that includes an open border welfare state. Not if.....only a matter of when. There is no money. The whole thing is a house of cards bernie madoff ponzi scheme. It's gonna get ugly.

Yes, people say that in every recession. Immigrants have always been the scapegoat. This is nothing new or different.

recession is different than the ponzi scheme this country is running. Was Bernie Madoff just going through a down period? What makes you think the USA can run a ponzi scheme any better?

Do you know what ponzi scheme means?

Our national ponzi scheme is social security. Current payees are funding current withdrawals in a way that cannot be sustained given our demographics. But Social Security happens to be the one program where illegals definitely cannot draw benefits. And on top of it, some illegals under fake SSN's are even paying into it.

PONZI SCHEME....promise to pay far more than you will ever bring in or earn....shuffle around the books to make it appear solvent. like estimating 10 years of taxes while paing 5 years of benefits(hello obamacare). Print money and buy your own bonds.....wait for catastrophe.
