Can I assume that the recent lull in anti-immigrant protests is just a pragmatic attempt to not piss off Hispanics right before the election? Is it all going to kick up again after all of the votes are cast? Or was it originally just a ploy to mobilize conservative anger early on to get the right wing active, and now it will fade away for another two years?

I think the Chandra Levy prosecution might renew the anti-illegal immigrant problem. Chances are probably 99.9 percent she would still be alive if it weren't for an illegal immigrant. Before you come back with a smart ass answer, give a thought to what her parents have been through and ask yourself how you would feel if this had been your daughter.

I am all for deporting illegal immigrants. I have a huge problem with harassing legal immigrants. The same people who support the Arizona legislation refuse to support reasonable protections for the legal immigrants under that law.

No reason to harass anybody. Just no free school, no social security, no medicare, no food stamps, no welfare unless you are a legal citizen. If you show up at a Hospital or Clinic and are not a citzen there should be one official in each facility that checks citizenship. The illegal should get care and then confiscate any assets of the illegal or relatives to pay the bill and then detain and deport when care has been delivered. Illegals would probably leave voluntarily and it would probably stem the flow as well.

Uh, you do realize that by law they don't get most of what you wrote.

Do illegals get social security? No.

Do illegals get medicare? No. They get emergency care under medicaid, and that's about it. If the states are handing it out, it's not the federal government's doing.

Do illegals get food stamps? No. Children who are U.S. born citizens do. You can take issue with whether those people should be granted citizenship, but your assertion is wrong.

Can a private entity seize the assets of an individual? No. They can sue to recover costs, just like in any other situation.

Do illegals go to school? This is not a federal issue. I'm sure some school districts have taken some in, and others won't.


So there you go. Pretty much everything you asked for has been taken care of. Now don't you feel so much better? What, still angry?

As long as illegals don't show up in the emergency room they won't b deported . Also states who allow free illegal education will lose all federal aid.

Actually, I'm not sure that any states enroll illegal students. When right wingers talk about illegals and education, they are generally talking about u.s. citizens who are children of illegals. There is no way that the Federal government can prevent actual u.s. citizens from getting an education. If you want that policy changed, fine. But you have to get past the hostility if you want realistic solutions. Nearly every country on earth treats a person, whoever they are, if they walk into an emergency room. We even treat wounded enemy combatants who are captured on the battlefield. You just aren't going to win supporters if you take your policies too far.

How exactly would YOU prove your citizenship if you were in an accident? Would you run home first and get your passport?

You know, conservatives are so two-faced on this. You want proof of citizenship but only a few years ago you called RealID an intrusion on freedom-loving Americans. And forget about national ID. You would rather have a world where only illegals are harassed but forget that there are millions of Hispanic citizens who look just like the leople you want to round up.
