But these competitions are never healthy. It's not sustainable - the body they have in these competitions are never a body people stick with, because it's not healthy or realistic to keep.

Starving and dehydrating yourself leading up to competition is not "Strong."

Bet she can kick your ass. It doesn’t have to be sustainable.

Probably not - I workout and have lifted regularly for 10+ years.

What's the point of this, if it's not sustainable? If you don't want to be strong and fit for life?

Why are you working out and lifting? It’s not sustatinable. Eventually you will have injuries and arthritis. And only 10 years? Are you a teen?

Are you drunk?

Put down the mommy juice, and go lift something heavy.

You sound like an incel mad Elizabeth Smart wouldn’t like twice at you at the gym.

Sweetheart I'm a strong AF middle aged lady.

I don't understand why you're so touchy about criticism of the temporary bodies people achieve for those BS "bodybuilding" comps.

Her post brought me to tears. What an amazing woman.

As a survivor of an assault 20+ years ago, I have struggled to love and feel good in/about my body. This really resonates.

Go away, loser. But putting "bodybuilding" into the subject all freaks came out of the woodwork. Should have just been an update on Elizabeth Smart and people who know who she is.

No it doesn’t. Go away.

Starving your body is self harm.

Bodybuilders build muscle and eat 6 times a day to do it. You have no idea.

They literally starve themselves and dehydrate themselves.

Look at the incident of health related issues in bodybuilders as well as suicide rates.

Here’s what’s crazy is people align themselves with the person and then they cannot for a second see the negative.

This is a wonderful person who went through an insane experience and has turned our life into something amazing and bodybuilding is self harm.

It's not, but continue to weigh in on this from your couch. Of course it can be taken to unhealthy extremes, but this isn't that.

+1 PP has no idea if it’s even being taken to unhealthy extremes and just wants to judge.

+1 God forbid a woman want to take back her body that was violated to an extreme for so long. She’s allowed to do what makes her happy.

Seriously! I was kidnapped + assaulted at age 16. I applaud Elizabeth. Leave it to some on DCUM to drag another woman down. Shameful.

You don’t get to criticize Elizabeth Smart, sorry. She’s doing nothing wrong. She is empowering herself and other women, unlike you.

Can someone explain to me how I can do something like this? I’m 35 - 2 kid 5’3 135 pounds and I work out about 3-4 times a week with strength training and running.

You declared without any information she was self harming. You have no idea what she did or didn’t do with the guidance of her trainer. You don’t know what her intent is.

For some reason seeing a picture of her w/her new, muscled up physique kinda surprised me!

I don’t understand why but it did.

Research indicates that from 20-50% of obese patients are survivors of child sexual abuse.

Between 30-65% of anorexia patients are survivors of child sexual abuse.

Elizabeth Smart is doing what she needs to do to survive. Those of you criticizing her are the lowest form of humans, full stop.

I am astounded that she has been able to move past what happened to her. It's inspiring.
Anonymous
The thing I'm most inspired about is that Elizabeth has been apparently able to transcend a whole lot of the BS that was fed to her about her religion.

This is the absolute opposite of modesty and long johns for men and women that supposedly protect your body from ... idk what. She clearly wasn't protected from evil by anything like that.

ES is owning her body, and not spiraling into what happens to too many victims. I've watched enough 600 pound person shows to know that with that kind of trauma and inability to process it, you can lose control of your body far more easily than you can get it together.
