How many of you are embracing grey hair?

+1 My colleagues in their 70s who look youthful all color their hair.

Age discrimination is real, especially for women. I and 55 and would like to work another 5-7 years. I’m worried about what would happen if I had to look for a new job.

Yeah, PP here. For me looking (and acting youthful) helps professionally.

I always wonder what field people who say this are in?

I just got hired for a great new job at 50 with a ton of grey. All the men have plenty of grey and some of the women. I’m not worried.

Good for you! I hope it means that we are moving away from the era where men with grey hair were distinguished and women with grey were old but I’m not confident that we are there yet,

I can’t do it yet. I’m spending a fortune to color and highlight every 5 weeks. I had my first grey in my mid thirties even though my parents didn’t go grey until their fifties. I wish I was better at managing stress.

52, never dyed my hair. My hair is about 50%n grey now and I don’t plan to start coloring it. I can’t stand the maintenance it requires, same with getting my nails done at a salon. I guess I just have to roll with it. So be it.

I think there's a difference between going grey in your thirties and your fifties. I know some younger women embrace it, and good for them, but it's understandable not to want to show your grays in your thirties or even forties. You want to look the same age as your peers. That's normal.

I found a Japanese hair coloring product that is applied with a brush and comb device. All you do it pump out the mousse onto the brush and apply to the top, and then comb it to the ends. There isn't ammonia and my hair is softer.

This is low maintenance enough for me to keep at it.

What's the product?

Same. I do it every three weeks at a salon. The bonus is that it conditions my hair so it is soft and shiny. I have had the same dark brown color all these years because going lighter never matched my skin and eyes. I have a very inexpensive colorist who has been doing my hair for over 30 years. Maybe I'll stop when she retires.

I don't think it's stress. My son and daughter both have gray hairs in their 20s. The environment is aging us.

I hope we get there someday.

LOL, same. Mom is 75 and not a gray hair in sight.

I'd go natural if my gray was white/silver, but it unfortunately it's a dark warm gray

Same here. Imagine if women stopped coloring their gray hair, society would get used to it and no longer view them as old. I also think it looks ridiculous when people in their 60s and up have hair without grays. You’re not fooling anyone.

But it does trick the eye. My 8 year old (privately) refers to “old grandma” and “young grandma” even though the gray-haired grandma is younger and slimmer than the red-haired grandma!

I started going gray at 30. Even if no one dyed their hair, it still would have aged me.

This is very true. I hate my grey hairs. They look awful on me. Some women can rock the grey hair.
