| I’m 52. I have not dyed my hair in 20 months. Looks so aging on me and I don’t like it. But highlighting it is so costly and time consuming. I’m struggling between aging gracefully and fighting aging. What are you all doing? |
| Not me but I went more blond. I now go once a month for root touch up. |
|
I got good natural silver hair after 20 years of dishwater blonde going brown. I'm rocking it.
People think I have expensive highlights. I get asked who does my hair. My mom thought I was getting it done. This is my karmic reward for having acne until 45. |
| I will color my hair as long as possible. |
| Most people dye their hair at home with box dye, OP. Why are you being so picky? |
|
I don't. When the grey grows in I get asked if I'm sick, and I also don't like how I look. My eyes are less vibrant than when my hair is dark brown, my skin looks drawn/pale (and not in the good way), etc.
It works for some people's features and coloring, but not for others. |
| I'm 57 and I haven't dyed my hair in 17 months. I'm not struggling with my decision. I'm relieved to be saving money and time, and I'm happy with the sort of silver/white/brown mix I have going on. |
| Coloring at home. I’m not allowed to stop until my mom stops. |
+1 My colleagues in their 70s who look youthful all color their hair. |
| Never |
|
I am, was, a redhead. Never touched hair dye - ever. At 59, my hair looks golden blonde. I get compliments frequently. That said, I think I look better with darker hair. When I care how I look, I feel as though I need more makeup so my whole pale face and now hair don’t simply blend into nothingness.
My neighbor just stopped dying hers and it’s a lovely gray - her hair looks so much healthier and shiny. |
| My hair won’t really hold color anymore and I lost a lot of it as a side effect of a post-cancer med. I colored it for over 30 years (both base color and highlights) and am concerned about continuing with the toxic chemicals. I miss the color, though! I would be happier rocking the gray if it was thick and lustrous like PPs! |
That sounds gorgeous! Op, I love my grays and embrace them. |

I got fed up with coloring my hair at home and simply stopped. I had gradually gone lighter from a dark brown, but then I just quit.
If I could afford to have it colored professionally, or if I worked in an office setting, I don’t think I would have stopped. I needed to accept that I’m in my 60s now, and this has helped. I’m receiving compliments from complete strangers on my hair for the first time in my life, but maybe those folks are just patronizing an old lady? |
Who said looking youthful is the goal when you’re 70? |
