Is GW worth extra 15k yr over American?

Not worth the difference. I taught st GW. They will squeeze you for every dime. For liberal arts degrees needing grad school to get a job...go public for undergrad. GW + AU are both very overpriced " meh" universities.

GW consistently ranks higher than American. GW is top 50 while AU is top 100. GW’s faculty are top notch with the university making intentional strategic hiring decisions over the past decades, invested in student academic experiences and personal experiences, brought in a string of great presidents, invested in IT all over the university heavily since the pandemic, increased resources around student success and retention with individual success coaches, career center growth, unique niche experiences, and catering to individual sports and activities. Alumi network is strong, too.

overall rank is not very meaningful, where it matters is specific major. those listed by the OP are on par or higher than GW. can't comment on the IT, etc.

GWU has some financial issues. Although AU also have them.

George Washington University sold its Virginia satellite campus for $427 million to stabilize long-term health amid a years-long deficit.
