Have kid plot out 4 yrs of classes at each and see what’s most appealing.

15k difference after the 5.5k loan that my kid is required by us to take - got to have skin in the game.

I am trying to figure out if the value is there. 60k over 4 years is not permanently life changing for us, but definitely very significant. Have another kid in college and honestly expected GW to be more flexible.

You can put that toward the law school tuition if they decide to go.

For poly sci and communications, it's a wash. Do what works for your family. But if it's IR and the Elliot School, GW is worth the premium.

If in-state were an option, we would pick that.

Go with what’s cheaper!

+1 I also find it really unusual that GW is more than American - GW is usually more generous.
Anyway, go with what’s cheaper

Absolutely not. GWU has always been overrated. If you are a working adult going part time on tuition assistance it has cachet.

My DD was in exact same situation a few years ago and went AU. She loves AU and living in Tenlytown.

Agreed.

GW has a much better reputation and is consistently higher than American U. In the ratings. Even GW’s infrastructure and IT is superior. You get what you pay for.

If you're considering graduate school, I think AU has a higher faculty-to-student ratio, and if your students work hard and stand out, they will have a better chance of getting strong recommendation letters, which are crucial for graduate school admission.

Go with what is cheaper. Essentially the same.

Neither of those schools are worth more than 40k/year max. The pricing has gotten insane.

I taught at a mid private and American accepted our full pay weakest students. The peer group at gwu would be stronger. But with communications I don’t see it mattering.

Your answer depends on how much you will miss the 15K.

Depends on how much $15k is worth to you. For some that's an hourly change in their portfolio. For others, that's a year's worth of earnings.

Is GW significantly less woke than AU?
