Is GW worth extra 15k yr over American?

Anonymous
Final fin/merit aid offer makes GW 15k a year more expensive than American for my kid to attend. Very similar situation compared to UMD. Political Science or Communications major with possible law or graduate school ahead. Is GW worth the extra 60k over 4 years?

Not worth the difference especially in that area of study. There are interchangeable. Go with American.

If you can afford it, yes. Can kid contribute $5k/r?
Have kid plot out 4 yrs of classes at each and see what’s most appealing.

That’s bizarre, gw usually gives more than American…must be changing times, the economy.
Go with what’s cheaper!

Yes, worth the $60k. Was a time when that wasn’t true but GWU has done a much better job picking presidents over the last decade or so. AU made a good choice recently but will take several years to rebound.

I’d go with AU both good schools. That can be used for launch money.

15k difference after the 5.5k loan that my kid is required by us to take - got to have skin in the game.

I am trying to figure out if the value is there. 60k over 4 years is not permanently life changing for us, but definitely very significant. Have another kid in college and honestly expected GW to be more flexible.

No, it’s not worth it. Comms is probably better at American anyway. Political science is a push and the kid is planning grad school anyway so put the money there instead.

AU is a better deal in your case. How much is UMD?
Anonymous
I would not apply to any of these

No, AU is a better choice.

Those are two very different experiences.

GW invented the political communications major.

No it’s not.

I would pick UMD- much better overall school.
