+1 my parents didn't give me a middle name but my siblings have them and it always annoyed me! I changed my name when I got married and moved my maiden name to my middle name I don't have one because 1) I think my parents really were expecting a boy 2) Mom's sister had a baby a couple weeks before me and gave her my mom's 1st choice girl name 3) I had to have surgery right after birth and my Catholic mom wanted me baptized before that so they were in a rush. So, grandma suggested the name they ultimately used. My older sister had one grandma's name as a middle name so they didn't want to repeat it. Other grandma absolutely hated her name and wouldn't let anyone use it. In a very stressful situation they just gave up and left the middle name blank. So, I understand why it happened but still I really disliked it when I was a kid. |
Strong agree. They all feel really dull and insufficient (almost forgettable) to me. Ava? Bleh. Mia? Bleh. Nia? Bleh. Lee? Bleh. Mae? Bleh. Max? Bleh. Roy? Bleh. Ann? Bleh. Cai? Bleh. Amy? Bleh. Gus? Bleh. Ian? Bleh. I think you get the point. |
+1. I am an American who was born while Jacqueline Kennedy was First Lady and she is always the first person who comes to mind when I hear the name. I actually prefer the French pronunciation of the name (zhak-LEEN) since it sounds prettier and flows better. |
I like the concept of middle names, but I don’t like how people use the same standard filler ones 99% of the time (especially for girls): Ann(e), Elizabeth, Nicole, Marie, Rose, Grace, Faith, Hope, Lil(l)y, Leigh, Lynn(e), Renee, Rae, May, James, Lee, Michael, Christopher, David, Daniel, Paul, Robert, Matthew, Alexander, Allen, Wayne, Richard. It kind of defeats the original purpose of a middle name. Fortunately, I think we’re moving on from this to a wider variety of middle names. |
Almost forgot Thomas! |
The men in my husband’s family all have Charles, Joseph, and Anthony as their middle names going back generations. It’s just the same 3 names recycled over and over again. William and Isaac were in the rotation at some point, but they dropped off. |
In my family the middle name is usually a family name or some other personal connection. DD's mn is the name of my close cousin who died young. DS's mn is DH's middle name, that is also a multigenerational family name. |
| I like Jacqueline, nn Jackie. Feels like an underused classic. |
| JAY QUELLIN! |
My niece Jacqueline (nn Jackie) has a t-shirt with this on it LOL

Why choose between Jacqueline and Jackie when you could name her Jackie-Lynn? You’d get the best of both worlds. Even better, how about Jamie Lynn?
(Before anyone comes at me, I’m just joking.) |
+1 There’s a post in the college forum right now by a woman who gave her two sons middle names but didn’t give one to her daughter! Nonsensical. |
My cousin name is Jacquelyn. Her mom and aunts all have names ending in -lyn. Guess y |
^^you could do the same with -line. |
