Easy to write, pronounce and understand first name with 3-5 letters with a nice meaning. No middle name and last name of mother or father, whichever is easier.
I disagree with this. I prefer names that have 5-8 letters. Any name with under 5 letters is too short for me. It’s also more practical to have a middle name than to not have one in the United States. My company has all of our employee email addresses formatted as FIRSTNAMEMIDDLEINITIALLASTINITIAL@ companyname.com. There’s kind of an unspoken expectation that you do have a middle name even though many don’t. Additionally, having a middle name differentiates you from other people with your same first and last name (especially if you have a common name combo). This could be a good thing if there’s a criminal with the same name combo as you.
I’ve never understood why some parents decline to give their child a middle name. You get to choose another name that you like at no extra cost to you, and it provides your child with an obvious name to go by if they really dislike the first name that you have given them. I don’t get not taking advantage of that opportunity. I know some foreign countries don’t do middle names, but I’m speaking strictly about American parents who have grown up with this custom. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
+1 my parents didn't give me a middle name but my siblings have them and it always annoyed me! I changed my name when I got married and moved my maiden name to my middle name I don't have one because 1) I think my parents really were expecting a boy 2) Mom's sister had a baby a couple weeks before me and gave her my mom's 1st choice girl name 3) I had to have surgery right after birth and my Catholic mom wanted me baptized before that so they were in a rush. So, grandma suggested the name they ultimately used. My older sister had one grandma's name as a middle name so they didn't want to repeat it. Other grandma absolutely hated her name and wouldn't let anyone use it. In a very stressful situation they just gave up and left the middle name blank. So, I understand why it happened but still I really disliked it when I was a kid.
