| Ugh, I really hate my basement. That's where my DH hoards useless stuff, and of course he never cleans any of it. I will begrudgingly tidy up a small portion tomorrow morning, just in case. |
| Considering I have survived a thunderstorm with a tornado warning before, I'm not too worried. |
|
My main concern is not having a basement if there really are tornado warnings by me. The only type of interior room I have is a closet and it’s not so big.
It also sucks that it’s going to get cold right after the storms. If the weather was moderately warm, I think not having electricity for a few days would be OK. The difference between worrying about this one and before the snowcrete is that, barring trees down, at least we could drive to a hotel or somewhere if we really had to. |
The water pressure that brings water to your faucet often involves electricity, yes. For example, the pump that brings water up to the water tower in order to get enough momentum to flow to your house. We have water towers in this area. Also, although I don't think flooding is forecast, storms with flooding can lead to contaminated water so thats why people associate water storage with storms. |
I am confused. |
I can’t remember what hurricane it would have been but it was about 22 years ago. Water treatment plant was affected and we had to use bottled or boiled water for several days. Just easier to have some on hand. |
| Not really concerned. |
I'm not really either- there are NWS warnings and advisories all over a big swath of the east coast and midwest but nothing for the immediate DC area so far. That could change still but it just makes me think it might not be as bad as originally predicted. |
I am envisioning severe traffic today. Mass exodus of people combined with bad weather, this is a terrible idea. |
OPM is allowing telework and I'm sure some other employers are too. |
| I’m less concerned about tornadoes and more concerned about fallen trees. |
| It's not even windy. |
The calm before the storm. |
Exactly. |
Reporting from downtown and Foggy Bottom. It's very, very quiet. I think those who could work from home, did. |
