I turn 40 this year and my younger self would be sad for me

Turning the big 4-0 can bring certain life angst which is perfectly understandable.
For many people, they view forty as the age where they are in their prime per se…..where the pinnacle of their success should lie.

And for many this can lead to huge disappointment as the day approaches.

OP, you seem to equate success in life to money.
And you are partly correct in thinking w/this pattern >> because career ➕ educational choices (good ones!) oftentimes lead to fruitful tangible shows of such success.
I.e., nice homes, cars, vacation spots, clothes, etc.

You need to switch your POV around on its head.
Blessings come in all different forms & you are blessed in many ways…..just different ways than others you may be comparing yourself with.
Btw, comparison truly IS the thief of joy.

Instead of comparing yourself to others (or fundamental ideals that you have set for yourself,) focus on all of the good things that you covet.

Are you in excellent health??
Because as we all pretty much can agree on ->> health is truly the only real wealth.
Also you say you are overweight.
This can be changed w/a healthy diet along w/more exercise.

You are ultimately 💯% in charge of your own life.
Perspective is EVERYthing.

Wishing you only the best in all of your future endeavors.
