The US has spent 8 TRILLION dollars since 9/11 on war in the Middle East, including interest on debt and healthcare costs for veterans (source: Brown University: https://costsofwar.watson.brown.edu/). What did it get us? What did it get people in the ME? What did we lose? $ for healthcare $ for health research. Could we have cured cancer with that $$? $ for more med school and residency spots and to fund med students' education $ for education K-12 $ for lower-cost community college and trade schools $ for mental health services $ for homeless services/housing $ for universal preschool/child care $ for infrastructure: roads, bridges, airports, high-speed train corridors in the NE, West Coast, Midwest Again, whenever issues above are brought up, people shout "where are we going to get the $$ for that??"
