if you think violating rules you don't like is how to get people to change rules, you are mistaken. Same goes for complaining about it here. |
Fair point. My son has decided to play for HS besides his NVA duties. If he is removed, he’ll join another MLS next club. I put the money down. NVA doesn’t pay my son to play for them. |
to each his own but real great lessons you are teaching your son - sign agreement not to do something and then do it anyway. |
I feel like you have posted this in other threads. It's so incredibly stupid and I feel bad for you even thinking this was a funny response. Next time comment on the actual post - THANKS! |
You are using the word "agreement" as if this is some negotiated, arms length meeting of the minds between two evenly positioned parties. In truth this is a child (!!!) and money making business enterprise and when I recently signed my so called "agreement" it was offered with a take it or leave it subtext and a digital click. The fact of the matter is we are paying customers and they are service providers. The idea that they can gatekeep on my kid having fun in high school, just because --- is another one of these little fictions we've all decided to endure (or not). My kid will be playing middle school soccer next year but sports are mandatory at the school so I assume a waiver would apply. But here's the thing, I'm not asking. |

The loophole that allows private school kids to play is not specific to private schools. Anyone, at any school can get the waiver signed.
Have you considered that your son cannot fully participate on the MLS Next team and play high school. They will not have the same level of commitment, focus, or energy. If they miss a game or practice then the rest of the team suffers. It is a very selfish decision by you and your son to not follow the rules that you agreed to follow. Not to mention that your son, who will already be playing MLS Next, will be taking away playing time and a roster spot from someone else at the school. You literally want your kid to be able to show off at his high school. No one gets better playing with a bunch of multisport jocks and a part time coach. Your position is self serving and your decision to post it in this board is likely due to the fact that you don’t have the guts to discuss it with your son’s coach. Your post is also titled incorrectly. MLS has done nothing to ruin high school soccer. |
| Question? Is the OP upset that a player who plays MLS Next looking for a U19 rec team for their son to play for? I’m guessing they aren’t. |
NO, that's incorrect. The waiver is meant for scholarships. So if a kid had his private school tuition reduced b/c he played soccer, he can play soccer for his private school. Of course all the private school kids lie and turn the form in, even though they pay full price. Public school kids can't use the form b/c there is no tuition. |
Bingo 100% correct. Although most private schools will give players a $1 scholorship so the waiver is real. |
Here's the deal. It's not a club rule. It's an MLS Next (HG/Academy) rule based on similar rules with overseas academies around exclusivity. It's no different than the way they own "training" rights if your kid wants to go overseas. None of those are negotiated points with a club, they're part of the charter for play and you inherit them when you accept the offer, whether you chose to read it or not. They delegate enforcement of high school to the clubs, which means that how much sway or influence a club has with MLS Next leadership to look the other way determines how strict they need to be on enforcement. In the DMV, it mostly means people stay quiet about it and the clubs don't look too closely. It can result in forfeits or other punishment by the national body, but generally nothing happens except a few kids each year having to quit high school ball partial way through the season. |
Hi volume of poorly coached bad soccer isn't improving anything, except apparently your tolerance and acceptance of low level soccer |
True. I personally don't care if MLSN1 allows HS or not, what I hate is the blatant hypocrisy for how the current rule is set and 'enforced'. Either allow HS or don't but stop with the bullshit private school waivers and the complete lack of enforcement. It is a joke and makes the league look weak. |

“Of course all the private school kids lie and turn the form in, even though they pay full price.”
How do you know people are lying? I bet the parents on your kids NVA team will be really happy to know that you think they lie and endorse their kids lying. |
You obviously don't realize nor care that this exception is in place so that kids of lesser economic means who are at a good private school on scholarship do not lose said scholarship Others gaming the system doesn't change that need |
How many MLS Next HG players also play HS? Should be an interesting number for sake of this dramatic emotional thread |
