That said--I think we need to celebrate America on its 250! I think we cannot let our ideals go without celebration. I don't have any fantasy that American can remain at the top of the world, but I do believe strongly in the mission. I think we have become too nice and empathetic. America was built on incredibly hard work and visible consequences. We need to celebrate our best and brightest, give them all the opportunities to succeed, and while we should not forget our poor, we cannot focus all our energy and money on them.

OP: I totally agree with what you’re saying here and agree that Dems have swung too far in the wrong direction. However, when I see the characters in this administration and their policy actions (like cutting research funding), it’s very much anti-best and brightest. And since America voted them in, doesn’t it mean America is now the same?

But is that because Dems swung too far and let go of ideas like failing poor students, allowing the poor to suffer a little, and stopping gifted educatio ? That will have the effect of everyone getting dumber.

Can you point me to the place where this is listed as a Democratic policy? Thanks.

I almost feel sad for them.

Look forward to all the America 250 celebrations. America has done more for the world in that time than some countries hundreds of years older.

It has also killed millions of civilians around the globe in that span of time. Nuclear bombs, wars for nonexistent weapons of mass destruction... How you do forget!

I live in NoVa and am really involved in our local 250 group. If you’re in Virginia, follow VA250 on Facebook or Instagram. They really are doing a fantastic job and it feels like how I wanted America 250 to feel. We’ll be going to Colonial Williamsburg for July 4th and seeing the tall ships in Baltimore the weekend before. Trump and MAGA have taken enough from us/our country, don’t let them take this, too.

The 250 people from alexandria keep spam texting me. I have no idea how they got my number and I keep trying to unsubscribe and marking it as spam but they keep sending more from different numbers.

It doesn’t seem like a lot to celebrate.

The constitution is basically a piece of garbage. Not even worth the paper it is written on.

There are no checks and balances. No bill of rights. We as citizens are not truly free. Racism is rampant from the top.

This is very sad.

Hmm, that is weird because NYC has been democratic for a long time and I went to college with kids from Stuy who were brilliant and became doctors so I’m not seeing what you are saying. Same with California.

I’m not really ready to celebrate until we’ve kicked fascism and racism to the curb.
