We are not with Achilles but considering them and these conversations are so lame. Why does the fee Achilles receives matter? We, as parents, are paying the cost of development and a free transfer into a European academy is the best method to enter the system with no risk to the academy. While some American P2P clubs have been known to receive payments based on what is reported to FIFA, the entire point of training with a club like Achilles is to receive the technical training similar to European academies and not be encumbered if your kid is good enough to play overseas (DCU will demand a payment that will probably prevent a move). We do know families who have moved to Achilles within the last year and those parents know more about development than the average DMV soccer Mom and Dad making decisions via the Rankings app so I do trust their judgement. I can learn from them and their overseas experience versus taking an American approach of arrogance. I don't really understand the acceptance of mediocrity in this area. Many of our kids are capable of being in a European academy while young but they drop off around U16. The drop-off is because of the lack of technical work practiced under pressure between ages 11 and 15. It is a cumulative effect. I really don't think you guys are educated at all on this process because Achilles are out-producing all of the major clubs when it comes down to the resources and number of players they have in their system which is why we are considering them. They don't have the horses as they are boutique as they say. Yes, we will have to absorb losing alot if we go to them. Yes, I will have to will have to brace for confrontation because Sal does not back down and neither do I. No, my kid is not guaranteed a "MLS Next" spot and will have to earn a spot week after week. No, my kid will not practice against the same level of talent daily he has with his current club. We have to weigh these out to make the best decision for us. Whether we make the move over there or not, if more clubs followed their system, we could compete with Philly for mid-Atlantic dominance. Stop hating on them and get curious about how they are getting their results and replicate it at your "big club." The DMV is not producing the level of talent we are capable of and no where near on par with the amount of money invested in youth soccer in this area. |
Are you Sal's mother or wife? This greatness in ball whisperer training kids are supposedly getting at Achilles is an Urban Myth There are multiple coaches at small clubs around the DMV that are developing highly technical and high IQ players. These coaches have been at higher levels as professional, international players and coaches than that at Achilles Achilles is basically a limited scope training camp for one type of player. The futsal type player on 5v5 small sided games. The only results we see and mentioned here often is the fact that the lack of coaching box to box results in consistent lopsided defeats at every age group |
Please show us the player development results of these coaches you're talking about and compare the number of kids at MLS Academies, national team ids, and international academies. And.....a simple fact check on your last point: U17s are 4-4-5 and not on the end of lopsided defeats (well....one). |
Who has a database tracking every youth club in the dmv and the movements of every player who left those clubs? I'm sure World Class Premier, a EDP club based on size is much more successful with actually developing kids than Achilles To be clear, Achilles hasn't sent a soul to any European academy. Parents and kids send themselves. Which kids with European passports from any club can do. As for the U17s, we all know that last year Achilles got a bunch of 2009s from other clubs and all of a sudden, the 2009s are the only decent team there. |
Name them. I’ll even limit to the last three years. I’ll wait. |
Again. How many kids from your club are playing in Europe the past three years? Feel free to whack off about wins and losses, because that’s all your club has to cling on to. |
LOL. |
Time has nothing to do with it. Any player with a European passport can go to a European club, then the last club in America can claim they transferred a player to Europe 🤣🤣🤣🤣 |
This is literally the dumbest argument. |
Then tell us about the numbers at your club? |
This is the DMV Kids with dual passports are a dime a dozen at every club The thing is, families who relocate to Europe with their kid who joins a European club don't usually have the club plastering propaganda marketing all over social media saying that they're responsible The worst team in MLS Next has all the best developed players? 😆 |

You guys have been busy. No, they don’t have all of the best players. I believe they develop their kids closest to their maximum potential more than most in this area. In my age group, they have two of the top 20 kids in the DMV but we beat them because we have more in the top 100. We will beat them but that is not a reflection on the coaching. I wish my club coached like them and I would not have the problem I have. If we stay with our coaching style, my kid will max out at D1. That is not my kids goal so I am exploring the landscape. I don’t think most people have done what myself and others parents I know from Achilles have done. We have visited practices around town. Watched teams play while at the same tournaments. Travel overseas. Listened to what matters from people who know more about development than us in the US. We, the US, don’t have one single top 100 player in the world. Based on the numbers of kids in the system, I think it is not crazy to look inward at what we are doing wrong. There are more than enough clubs available in this area if you want to be good enough to make it to D1-D3. I think there are only a few paths to Europe and they are one. It is not about the recruiting. I already have the same German contact that led GB to Germany. That part is my job as a parent. I pay the club to teach my kid the nuanced details of playing. I am not Sal’s wife. I am just a parent who thinks my kid has a shot at his dream and I understand it is a long journey to get there, not a dopamine laced “we won a nattie” culture so prevalent in the DMV. It was cheesy marketing that reignited this thread. It’s not an incorrect statement though that kids are moving there and we may or may not be one of them. Either way, I hope we elevate our conversation about development beyond standings and Taka highlights. |
Ha, well said |
