Kieran (boy name)

I have a friend with that name, but he's literally Irish, with an Irish surname as well. Super nice guy, the name fits him well. I do wonder how Irish you are and so how well it will fit.

Good Irish name.

It's a good name. We know two - one is caucasian (not sure if the family is of Irish descent or not) and the other is South Asian (Indian).

All the Indian people I know that have boys named Kiran actually spell it the Irish way - I know one Indian Kieran and know of at least two others.

It will be misspelled as “Keiran” frequently. Never overestimate the intelligence of other people.

It’s a great name (when not butchered), though!

It's perfectly adequate

Seriously…how do people not know about I before e?

(I don’t understand why some people spell their Kiera girl names Keira. Makes no sense to me whatsoever, but yeah, I guess I overestimate people knowing that I comes before e except after C…)

It’s a great name. My long term Irish boyfriend studying abroad in Ireland in college. Good memories 😀

100% on all this

Ok, but we are Italian and an Irish first name would sound legit dumb! Same as naming a kid Domenico Malarky.

I suspect that Keira Knightley has had an influence on the increase of the spelling Keira over Kiera. Many people no longer view it as a spelling error because of her. It's funny and ironic because Keira Knightley herself has even stated and acknowledged that her mom accidentally spelled her name wrong when she was registering her birth. Her name was supposed to be spelled "Kiera".

Ok, so don't name your kid that. My kids have a german last name, and Kieran would sound just fine to me paired with it. You don't get to make up dumb rules that give the Smiths broad license to name their kids whatever the heck they want, while calling everyone else dumb for doing the same.

Reminds me of the Indian name Kiran. How is it pronounced.

Why would you do this to a child?
