Josh Shapiro’s book

The fact that he’s Jewish isn’t what disqualifies him. It’s the support of Israel, and the implied support of Israel’s policies and actions.

To be clear, Israel doesn’t have a right to exist. No country has such a “right”. Continued existence is based on the will of people. But if Shapiro could learn to understand what most of the rest of the world is seeing with their own eyes, the sky would be the limit.

Well, the will of Israelis—that is, the people who live in Israel—is to continue to exist.

Cool. The calculus doesn’t merely involve their own will, though. Tough break.

If you really look in to it. It seems he is claiming he was in the IDF but not really. It’s the worst. He is claiming stolen value from IDF soldiers committing genocide. It’s should piss everyone off.
I saw him for the first time on a cable show the other day, and was very impressed. Didn’t come off as Jewish at all. And I think the IDF angle may have some cross-party appeal. He may be the center moderate many voters in both parties are looking for.

Please tell readers what coming “off as Jewish means.”

This 100%. If he disavowed Israel despite being Jewish, the usual antisemitism claims that have become part of the playbook wouldn't have worked. And the increasing anti-israel and anti-genocide public sentiment would have worked in his favor.

He could not do that. He did two things as AG - make sure Israel was safe from disinvestment campaigns(establishment of a state religion) and work to end free speech at colleges and universities in PA(government silencing free speech). He would be much more comfortable running as a maga.

No thank you.

His ego would get in the way.

You seem to be out of touch with current politics if you think being in (or in this case claiming to be in) the IDF has any cross party appeal. It has as much cross party appeal as wearing an anvil around your neck while trying to swim across the English channel.

Precisely, it's a big reason why Mamdani was able to secure his victory. One could look to his pivotal moment in the debate where he put his priority to the people of New York rather than a foreign nation.

I don’t think being asked if you’re a foreign agent if you served in a foreign military is an out of line question. Why didn’t he serve in the U.S. military instead of the IDF? Yeah exactly
Anonymous
he was asked that because he did volunteer stuff with idf....

...that is a valid question and if he was a normal civil servant interviewing with CIA, or any IC / DoS type role, he'd be asked that.

The closest chance to a Jewish president was Bernie sanders.

Shapiro always whines about this stuff...there's a reason why Bernie and Ossoff are Jewish and don't get asked this stuff while Shapiro does.

Shapiro needs to look in the mirror.

Anyone who served in a foreign military should be considered a foreign agent, especially if you claim to be an American. The burden of proof is on that person.

I wouldn’t count him out for 2028 just yet. PA is the perfect crossroads of a variety of cross sections of America so if he won that state, he’s very politically formidable

Maybe as the maga candidate. He has no appeal as a democrat or independent. I doubt he would be able to win Pa in a presidential election.

Wow. I can't believe these viscious comments. Sounds like you all terrified of the thought of a fantastic former attorney general and sucessful current governor who happens to be Jewish might be a presidential contender.
