As someone who is very sharply critical of anyone who blindly, unconditionally supports Israel, this guy could actually be a viable candidate if he unequivocally disavowed support for Israel’s policies and actions, and called for reform in Israel. The fact that he’s Jewish isn’t what disqualifies him. It’s the support of Israel, and the implied support of Israel’s policies and actions. To be clear, Israel doesn’t have a right to exist. No country has such a “right”. Continued existence is based on the will of people. But if Shapiro could learn to understand what most of the rest of the world is seeing with their own eyes, the sky would be the limit.
This 100%. If he disavowed Israel despite being Jewish, the usual antisemitism claims that have become part of the playbook wouldn't have worked. And the increasing anti-israel and anti-genocide public sentiment would have worked in his favor.
He could not do that. He did two things as AG - make sure Israel was safe from disinvestment campaigns(establishment of a state religion) and work to end free speech at colleges and universities in PA(government silencing free speech). He would be much more comfortable running as a maga. No thank you.
