To some people, winter is normal. They sell winter clothes, you know.
It's better to live somewhere that has real winters instead of constant fluctuations into the fifties. When it's always cold, you get used to it. You enjoy the sunshine. You don't forget where your hat and scarf are. You can ski. And if you do get a little too cold, you can come inside and cozy up with a hot chocolate. |
| They actually want DMV students. Apply early, get good merit. |
| Is all the ethnic diversity from international students at UMN? |
Lots of direct flights from DC. |
No. The Twin Cities have numerous ethnic communities who are represented at the school. |
Minnesota is off our list, given what’s happening there. |

I was there in June for the first time and loved how nice the people were, but not sure my DS will like the cold. He got in for engineering. He's considering it, though, because they gave him a little merit and it's supposed to be good for some engineering (I'm trusting him on this - I have no idea).
It's amazing how friendly and kind Minnesotans are. I do worry that it'll continue to be targeted and therefore less safe than in the past, so that's a consideration to think about along with the cold. |
| My northern Virginia daughter went there and liked it. Easy flights. But MSP is not in good shape now. |
They’ve been invaded by paramilitaries with no respect for the Constitution, yes. Thankfully the people are standing their ground. Now if they would start shooting back instead of simply icing their walkways, we might reclaim America. |

| Following. I have a sophomore daughter who has UMN on her radar. We live in the midwest. We haven't toured any schools yet. Right now she says Wisconsin is her top pick (one of the few schools that has a botany major), but she is pretty shy and introverted, and I wonder if she would do better at a smaller school. We will look at some of the midwestern LACs, but at UMN, they have a separate, smaller St. Paul campus for plant science majors, so I'm wondering if that would help her find a small school environment in a big school. |
