Where are the jobs

The structural engineers I know do inspections during weekdays and during business hours.

Good for them.

The question asked where are the jobs that go begging.

Those jobs are mostly paid for by the white collar class. As the white collar works run low on funds or switch to their own blue collar job, the demand will plummet and supply of workers will rise.

Education and health care, that's largely coming from the government -- when ACA rolls back especially I would not count on those careers. Education will be eviscerated when we have the nation wide voucher program, you will have to find some penniless job without a pension or stability at some pop up charter or conservative christian private school

There are jobs in teaching, nursing and the trades, basically the work most people don't want to do for the market pay. The overall economy is not great.

CPAs doing financial reporting are always in demand. Talking controller in a company. Tax is also a big area. There is also a need for bookkeeping if you want some kind of side business.

Plenty of cyber/tech roles are advertised. Specific skills and qualifications are required, however. Low level coding roles are not the focus. Sales positions of varying types at at varying levels always seem to be available. Most medical fields have lots of opportunities. Lower level administrative assistant-type roles are advertised widely. The hospitality industry has lots of openings at different levels. Most law enforcement agencies are hiring. The military is always recruiting.

There are a lot of jobs available, but they may not all appeal to all who are job hunting, and not all who are job hunting are qualified for many of the roles available, due to mismatches between job requirements and applicant educational and experience backgrounds.

I will need to point my unemployed friends to this thread because it seems that they are unemployed by choice. Apparently they are so many sectors hiring.

People don't just want any jobs. We are hiring without any experience and the pay goes from $18 an hour to $40 an hour within months. We cannot find workers.

Maybe so, maybe not. Either way, employment opportunities exist for those willing to pursue them. Some few have age limits, but most do not. It may be necessary to consider roles beyond what one has done previously. That might require starting lower down a different career ladder, pursuing additional education, training, and/or certifications, etc. Pivoting to a different career can be challenging but is not necessarily impossible for people who are motivated to take action to change their circumstances.
