20 plus years of corporate experience

Anonymous
I was laid off from my PM job in May. Just got an offer at the end of December. I start next week. It's very, VERY rough out there for PMs. I also have 20 years of experience as a PM. I had 4 interviews during those 6 months i was laid off. I never had that few interviews in my life before, and I was laid off in 2010 as well!

Same poster here. I also tried applying at Costco. Never heard back. So don't count on it!

What is corporate experience like, knowing how to get to the office, use the elevator, sit down at a computer, and go home?

I’m guessing OP means private sector experience primarily in large corporations and most likely not low level.

Lots of growth at tech companies in the area.... perhaps an option!

At this point, I just need a decent paying full time job so I can keep a roof over mine and my kid’s head. I’ve looked at tech companies, but most want at least 5 years IT experience.

I’m glad you posted this. It’s obvious who has and hasn’t looked for jobs within the last year. Congratulations on your new job!

Following this. Hang in there, OP.

I’m in public health as well and still employed after some layoff scares, but given where things seem to be headed at my org, I’m considering pivoting health disciplines entirely. I had decent grades and aptitude for med school when I was younger and did a lot of community clinic work but stupidly didn’t go that route - wish I had, but I’m too old now for the length of that training.

I’m looking into NP and PA graduate degree programs in my state since I really did love some of the hands-on clinic volunteering I got to do and it seems like in person patient care may be more stable long term (though who knows?!). Plus, I’d love to bring my public health background to that work.

OP - definitely keep an eye on state and county health department job boards, as well as some of the health tech type jobs.

So many excuses

You could drive a school bus. I saw they are paying close to $30 an hour.

How are these excuses? Don’t parents need money to support their families? Does it make sense to go into more debt to go back to school when you have mouths to feed? Get out of your dcum entitled bubble.

How did you lose your job, was it due to a layoff or were you fired for cause? If it was the latter, you may be blacklisted locally in your field. I imagine the PM world in Public Health is fairly small, and people talk.

-Substitute teacher
-Paraprofessional (school system)
-Admin asst at a hospital (PM skills highly valued in this role, can easily move up the ladder)
-Part time professor (online or in person)
-CNA (nursing home, hospital, home health). Only requires a very short and cheap certification course
