Patch Shortage

Isn’t that a progesterone issue?

Has anybody accessed estradiol patches? I’m a pp whose pharmacy said it would be available in a few days because it was on order, and of course it’s not. It’s CVS, and when I look in the app to transfer the script, I just get “out of stock” in all three zip codes I tried…

I have a Mirena IUD which is proving the progesterone. And I had no problems with the Sandoz brand and dosing. When I had to switch to another brand bc of shortages of Sandoz last year, I started having hot flashes again. The lining of my uterus also increased - I can't say for certain it was because of the other brand of patch but it happened at the same time. So I am very reluctant to change patch brands again - but of course, I cannot find the Sandoz brand in pharmacies, so I'm stuck.

How did you know your uterine lining increased?

Dr saw on an ultrasound, and has been monitoring it on regular ultrasounds.

Not PP, but I vaguely remember my doctor bringing the chance of this (thickened uterine lining) up when I first went on hrt a couple of years ago, but she hasn't ordered any ultrasounds...

pp at 06:30 here. Found it at Costco's pharmacy.

Was going to contact my doctor in case she had advice about what to do when the CVS website that last week told me my estradiol was "on order" and would be available yesterday now said it is "on order" and will be available on Feb 12. But on a whim before I did that I called my local Costco. And they have it -- and it took 30 seconds on the phone with them to transfer the script.

So if you are having trouble getting it you might try Costco. It occurred to me to check Costco because I went on Wegovy during the shortage and Costco always had it for me. Glad I checked.

I called CVS and they could not have been less helpful. I guess as soon as the patches come in they get filled really quickly. I switched my rx to Amazon but still haven’t heard back on the status of my order.

Is it just the patches made by sandoz that is out of stock? Or is all generic manufacturers?

I used Express Scripts, which I have to because of my insurance, and I got the patches after a week (Mylan brand).

Maybe the Mirena is getting old and less effective? It’s supposed to be the gold standard for protecting the uterus.

You can ask for an ultrasound just to check. Seems like some doctors are more proactive about that than others. But if you’re taking progesterone regularly then it should be ok.

I spoke with Amazon yesterday and they do not have any stock of Sandoz brand, even though it's on their web page.
