Do some boys skip the growth spurt?

Yeah he already had his growth spurt.

Maybe, but when I plot his height vs date from 2014-now from the pediatricians records. the R2 value is 0.99. So no real spurt, just slow and steady.
Hence the question about some boys not having a spurt.

Sneakers are currently size 13 in regular shoes but we just had to buy 15s for basketball shoes.

Nobody knows, OP. Growth rates and patterns are highly variable. He might be mostly done growing in height or might grow six more inches, or somewhere in between. The cracking/changing voice indicates later puberty.

Sounds like my friend's son. He was about 6'1" at 12 years old. No real growth "spurt" -- he just grew steadily until about age 16. He ended up at just over 6'8". It is pretty annoying for him and his family (expensive clothes, cannot fit into cars, worry about future health issues, gawking from others, etc.), but there is not much that can be done about it. Hopefully, your son will not end up that tall. FWIW, his mom is 5'11" and his dad is 6'4".

Doctor ruled it out because he isn't skinny and his legs/arms are in proportion

That’s good news. He’s just growing at his own pace like every kid and predictions are worthless.

Nothing wrong with being 6’8 so no reason to hope OP’s kid won’t end up that tall.

He should be able to get a basketball scholarship at that height.

Sounds like you do not have any personal experience with extreme height. It is what it is, but it is certainly not ideal. Of course, if a person can combine extreme height with extreme athleticism, then there could be a big payout.

Steady, average 2" per year give or take.

DS was barely 5'1.25" going into HS. He's now about 5'11" at 20.

My god just shut up. Truly.

My experience as a tall kid and knowing other tall kids, is that we are more steady growers than stall and spurt. The short young looking kids whose height doesn’t match the parents, are the ones that shoot up a foot.

Actually my teen is 6’7 and still growing. Sounds like you don’t understand how offensive you are being.
