| My friend had a child born with Marfan Syndrome. One of the symptoms is extremely tall with long limbs and very thin. It’s genetic but you can have a mutation in the gene without any parent carrier. I’m sure the doctor has already ruled it out but you should ask about it. |

Mine was a very late bloomer- he just turned 19 and is a freshman in college and grew about at inch this fall and is now 6’5”. He plays a sport and is weighed and measured often which is how we know.
(I think he still has some growth left-) |

OP here- Thanks everyone!
Sounds the voice drop is the big indication and we aren't there yet. FWIW- he was 6'2" at his 12 year check up.. |
Doctor ruled it out because he isn't skinny and his legs/arms are in proportion |
| How tall are you and dad? I would be concerned about a projected height of 6-9, TBH. I get that it’s great if he’s going to be in the NBA or something, but in general that kind of height leads to a lot of health issues, convenience issues, and almost always looks odd. Unless you are both in that height range (accounting for gender), I would probably consult with an endocrinologist just to rule out genetic issues. On the other hand, he might be closer to done growing than you think. Sounds like he’s well into puberty for 12. |
She already said they are both tall. OP your child is fine. It will be what it will be. Your son will be fine and have a great life at whatever his final height is. |

I’m not sure how tall my DS will end up, but he seems to have had more of a steady rate of growth than growth spurts and is now around 5-9 at 13. He definitely did go through a feet growth spurt! At one point I felt like he was outgrowing shoes every 3 months. And his feet are still growing (now almost size 13!) but less quickly.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he stopped growing or if he grew another 3-4 inches. He did hit puberty early but the facial hair and voice were the last to change. Pubic hair and his frame filling out happened well before that. |
Oh he’s already 6-2? Based on your OP I think he is well into puberty already. I wouldn’t project him growing at the same rate for many more years! |
| My 6’7” brother never had a growth spurt. He was tall by 3 and just steadily gained inches until he stopped around 19. By 11, he was just under 6 feet. |
Am I wrong or isn’t 9 inches of growth over 2 years a growth spurt? My 5’2” 13 year old would love to grow 9 inches and end up 5’11”. |
| Almost every child will have a different growth pattern, even within the same parents. Sometimes big differences. Other times smaller differences. There really is no "general" trend. |
This. |
I’ve spent way too much time with middle schoolers over this break because I just said “six seven” after reading your post. |
Mine were both very late bloomers too. My senior in HS -17 just started really growing this winter break. He was 5’4” the start of freshmen year. 5’7” last summer and currently 6 feet. My mom saw him at Thanksgiving and than at Xmas and was blown away by the change. Older sib left HS at 5’11”. He’s now a sophomore in college, 20, and 6’2”. We all grow on the later side. Sucked for sports but they are crushing it now. I always thought it was strange to offer 16-year olds scholarships when many don’t pan out in college. |
My 6’1” kid wears an 11.5. |
