Tell me about your Electric car or hybrid car

Ford C-Max plug in hybrid. Love it. Only need gas for road trips. The electric-only range covers nearly all of my daily driving. Best of both worlds unless/until electric charging on the road becomes less unpredictable and less expensive. (Home charging in VA is like 12.5cents/kwh but on the road chargers can easily cost 50 cents/kwh.)

They’re terrible. Traded mine back in to the dealer about a week after I bought it.

Not sure yet but I absolutely love driving the Rivian and would be happy to have a second one.

As for what we paid for it, it was around $75K when we got it and then the price shot up. We have the quad motor with some other features that I don't think are still available so it's the top of the line version.


Thanks for this review PP. I have an R2 reserved as well because I don't want such a large vehicle as the current models. We've owned Teslas (X, 3, Y) for over ten years and love them. We currently have a Y and 3 that are over six years old and we'd like to replace them, but will not buy new Teslas even though we really like them. Looking forward to the R2 and hope it comes out soon!

Not sure where your road trips take you, but just in the last six months, the charging situation between D.C. and New York has improved significantly — bunch of new options off the highway plus, more usefully, the NJ turnpike and Delaware rest stops now all have chargers. So you don’t have to get off the road and you don’t really have to think about where to charge.

Toyota Siena hybrid. Like the reliability and comfort, hate the massive size (we park on the street). Bought it for $60k-ish? Minivans are expensive, go figure.

Had a Rav4 hybrid for 7 years before that. Loved literally everything about it, but needed extra room when we graduated to 3 adults + 2 carseats. Would honestly happily switch back once the kids are able to buckle in without all the gear.

We don't have a garage or dedicated place to plug in, so while we considered fully electric, it would have been fairly complicated, whereas hybrid means we just get gas every other month or so at Costco when we're already there to shop.

We have a KIA Sorento hybrid (regular, not plug in) and it's been great. Amazing gas mileage for such a big, heavy car and small enough that it fits in my tiny garage. The hybrids are made in Korean factories and have the best reviews of all three of their models. We LOVE it - nice to have a tiny third row for carpooling, too.

I love my Ford Mach E (EV). I have the lowest end model with 2WD, solid roof, regular battery. Got it used for a great deal along with the used EV tax credit. Solid, comfortable, great handling, quiet, good sound system, 360 camera.

I don’t drive more than 40 miles a day so I just plug into a normal outlet each night. The average driver really doesn’t need level two charging. 90% are probably fine with level 1.

I have a Rav 4 Prime (plug in) and it is probably the best option for a hybrid. A bit over 40 miles electric range and then 40+ mpg as a hybrid. It also has 300hp (gas+electric) so if you want to drive fast it is a bit of a sleeper, 0-60 ~5.5 seconds. That said, it still doesn’t offer the effortless power and smoothness of a real electric. It general tech and integration is mediocre at best. It feels like a blackberry compared to an Iphone. If you haven’t driven a Tesla it will feel fine/normal to you.

I previously had a Tesla model 3 I had to sell for an international move. That car was just outstanding and is obviously the Iphone in the comparison. The newer ones they are selling now are obviously even better. Nothing compares to the near silence, smoothness and power of electric. The tech integration, app, connectivity are far beyond anything else available in the US. (Toyota’s app is a joke.)

We just bought a 2025 Ioniq. I love this car. We had a level 2 charger installed at home; our electricity is cheap and I charge it to 80% every 5 days or so. We anlso have an Camry that will eventually go to one of our kids. Our next /thirdncar will either be a fully electric that has a 500 mile range (these are coming soon) or maybe a plug in hybrid depending….I almost got the plug in hybrid but driving all electric is so nice. We have taken it in short road trips, enough charging areas around but we haven’t needed them.!

I could have written this! We have the R1S also and I ADORE it! I’ve never been a car person but I sure am now! The only difference between me and this poster is that I commute - I have 60k miles on it in 2 years (and we take it on vacation and our kids play travel sports) - but all to say that we have had no issues whatsoever. The couple of times it’s needed servicing, Rivian has come to our house and we’ve never had a problem finding a charger. We love it!

We’re also on the waitlist for the next/smaller iteration.

I’m the PP with the Toyota BZ4X and BMW X5 plug in. I forgot to add that my parents have an Ioniq 6 and love it. They live in a very small town in the deep (some might say deepest) south, and it’s been fine. They installed a level 2 charger at their house, so running around town is no issue. If they go out of town, they just map out where fast chargers are along their route - my dad loves planning it all out (plus they’re in their mid-70s, so they prefer to fly anyway if the drive is going to be too long).

Ford fusion hybrid.
Pro:Gets up to 60 mpg on my heavily congested commute , so fill up half as often compared to my gas only car.
Con: battery takes up a good chunk of the trunk space, had to wait until kids were out of strollers to buy

Maybe in the US. The rest of the world it is growing at 20-30% per year compounded annually. The US auto market is 15-16% of the world market and has prices that are double what the rest of the world pays. King Don has killed the US car manufacturers. In 3 years they will be begging for a bailout.

You can buy Chinese EV south of the border in Mexico and drive it home. No tariffs. A top of the line Tesla or Porsche Macan equivalent is $35k. They have dealerships in Tijuana.

Love my Accord Hybrid. Quiet, smooth, good pickup. 35-40 miles/gallon around town and closer to 50/gallon on the highway.
