Frustrated. Take home pay $9k. Health insurance $3k/month

It's the Wegovy effect. 3k = 1 to 2 adults on a 1K/month drug

Why do we accept this as Americans??

starbucks, only have to work 20 hours a week to get medical, and they have a 401K they match on. That is not many hours. I used to work 20 hours all during college. Giving starbucks by my house is open 5am to 9pm most days. Pretty easy to do 20 hours even with a full time job.

God bless America. Where you may have to work a part time barista job on top of a full time job so you can afford to go to the doctor.

OP can you get the highest possible deductible and remove the adults from dental and anything extra?

Nobody's doing that - ick

Medical tourism is hot in India. But, dying because you can't afford healthcare in USA is a valid option.

This is false. First, the majority of insurers don’t cover wegovy. Second, prices are dropping rapidly thanks to insane competition.

They aren’t really dropping rapidly. They are sold for massively cheaper prices abroad (I would say 1500% cheaper…but since our dipshit president is so stupid…often 75%+ cheaper) and just like statins, when they come off patent you will be able to get them for just like $10/month or less.

That amazing insurance you have won't be there forever. And if you think you can just switch job to get a better insurance you won't find any because they will all be expensive.

It amazes that people who think they have great insurance today will be the case forever.

We have military retiree insurance. My spouse's current job does not provide any benefits, including leave. You are told it upfront and decide accordingly. If we needed the insurance, they wouldn't have taken that job.

A huge number of people in this region lost government jobs this year. They are taking what they can get. My family now pays 1200 a month where we once paid 600 because of a job switch. And we're dawn grateful for it.

Our health insurance premiums (and the system in general) have been a wreck for a long, long time. It’s so messed up.

At that amount, you'd be better off going on the exchange.

Oh yeah, everyone should just go do that. Easy peasy, problem solved. Spoken like a true MAGA Congressman.

Go apply for a job at Starbucks and report back on if you get it.

At least worth looking into the exchange.

Anonymous wrote:OK, those are mean replies. Not everyone has the ability to get a job with insurance. And not everyone has the potential to be a high earner. I feel for OP. I remember struggling when my kids were young because housing costs were so high and we were paying for daycare. Insurance is ridiculously expensive and the social contract where insurance is a benefit of your job has changed dramatically. I'm sorry it's tough for OP.

Same. Also, my company used to provide reasonably priced health care - but it has increased dramatically over the past few years, and raises have not increased proportionately. OP is likely in a similar situation. Health care should not be tied to employment and it should be affordable for all.

Because look at the replies... they blame you for not finding a job that offers you better insurance instead of blaming our government not offering universal healthcare as a right to live as an American.

Well, for starters the healthcare in this country is for profit and insurance companies make billions off you for charging you as much as they can and offering as little as they can. Maximize their profits.
