This is the way.

If you can't be with the one you love, honey
Love the one you're with.

Love the one who loves you back. 1000%

Wow, this is not healthy. You are equating college admissions to love?
It's a transaction, not "love", you don't have to be emotionally attached.

Steady and practical. That's what you should be doing.
A deferral is not a rejection.
Confidence without fixation.
And you are still choosing when you got accepted after deferral, it's not binding.

I understand why people use the expression, but it’s very inaccurate. This process isn’t personal. Absolutely take the best fit offer and don’t worry about deferrals. That is old news before you even start, and the impact could be life changing.

One in five deferrals got in Cornell. In what world you call that "pretty low"?

If you have a 20% chance of surviving surgery, most people would consider that "pretty low".

It's not "surviving surgery". It's not "love". What's wrong with you moms?

The closest analogy, should you use one, is an investment opportunity. Yes, it's a transaction. If you think you might get this investment opportunity, I don't see why you want to give it up, or not trying, or being obsessed with it. I hope you don't raise your kids to be so emotionally weak. Common on, you are being ridiculous!
