Working on opposite ends of the beltway — where to live?

Do not live in Bethesda or Rockville. One spouse has long Silver line ride to Tysons. Other drives to CP or takes Metro.

Yeah I'm team "get a new job" for one of you. Close to Bethesda is probably the best way to split the difference if you both want to drive. But that Bethesda to Tysons commute is BRUTAL. I'm less sure of the Bethesda to CP commute, but it's still on the Beltway.

What job is closest to the metro? If the College Park job is right next to the metro and the Tyson's job isn't, then live somewhere more convenient for the Tyson's driver (Alexandria or Arlington). If the Tyson's job is right next to metro, then live somewhere in DC convenient to the Orange/Silver lines - like Foggy Bottom/southern Dupont Circle. Driving against traffic in DC northeast to College Park wouldn't be too bad.

Relevant questions — is one job more llleyk to be a long term job than the other? Are you lively to have kids soon? If so, how do you feel about moving at that point? And is it likely that one or the other of you will be default parent” for sick child pickup, daycare plays, etc?

Pike and rose in bethesda would be a good midpoint and both would have a commute.

Tysons would mean one person has low commute and other person has the commute but at least gojng the “right” direction t(it’s worse gojng to vA in morning and coming home in afternoon).

Capital hill would give you both a commute but at least could both take metro and probably more hip that eiitjet of the other options.

I think those are your options. If you will have kids soon and person with Tyson’s jojb willing to be default parent, that argues for Tyson’s.

Oh also maybe looking at the mythical purple line. Will it help either of you? Will it ever be finished?

Instead of making the lives of both of you miserable, make one life easier? That person can be tasked with starting dinner etc. both of you having terrible commutes is a disaster when you start having kids.

I can’t figure out how all the people saying to live in Bethesda or otherwise up at the top of the beltway live in the same city and have the same parenting experience as I do.

Bethesda or Silver Spring

DC.

No way I would commute across American Legion bridge everyday. Forget it.

Could live in Dupont, and Tysons person take metro, College Park person drive up Rhode Island Avenue

Bethesda seems like only option in the middle

I'm in Bethesda off old Georgetown closerish to the beltway. On a good day I'm at Tysons corner in 14 minutes. If you're downtown Bethesda add a few more minutes to travel up old Georgetown or Wisconsin. Thinking longer term the purple line will be open in a few years so that will be an option to get to college park. Driving to Tysons can be a pain but with the Virginia beltway construction traffic has been better.. sometimes. Also if you want kids eventually Bethesda is pretty good to say the least.

Nowhere did OP say they wanted to live here WITH kids. They said no kids yet and they want to rent an apartment for now.

We've lived in VA, MD, and DC and worked everywhere from Tysons to College Park to Rockville.

I'd personally get an apartment in 16th Street Heights near the bus lines and Rock Creek Parkway. Or closer to U Street if you want to take the metro.
