| We’re a 30-something couple. No kids yet. We’re looking to rent a new apartment, but we want to keep our commutes reasonable. One of us works in College Park, and the other in Tysons. Where would be the best places to look? We both currently drive to work but would not be opposed to metroing depending on the length of the commute. We’re looking for somewhere safe, fun, relatively quiet, and in walking distance to shops and restaurants. |
| One of you should get a new job. |
Noma. |
| I would consider Rockville or Bethesda. |
| It's going to be terrible no matter what. If you want to be in the middle, maybe southwest DC. If one of you has a more flexible schedule or hybrid options, live closer to the other job. |
|
Yeah that’s going to get old pretty fast. I would work toward hybrid or getting a new job for one of you. And if there are kids, that s going to be stressful. I guess if you had a nanny in home that could work. Or maybe one of you will stay at home?
I did quite a bit of Tyson’s work and living on Cap Hill and that got old. A couple days a week is ok. |
| I’d live in Arlington |
|
College Park, spouse will take the greenbelt Metro to Silver Metro to Tyson?
Or live in Tyson's Corner and metro to Greenbelt. Zip code 20854 Potomac, MD could work. Zip code 20814 Bethesda, near the Montgomery mall area is okay but traffic could be one hour each way for both! |
|
The Tysons person should take Silver Line. Assuming it really is Tysons near a Metro stop.
With a ride that long, transferring from another line would be just too much. So live somewhere on Silver Line. Capitol Hill. The other one can drive or get orange to green line Metro depending on where they work. |
| Check traffic in Bethesda and Alexandria at rush hour times and see if either will work. Bridges will be a problem. I’d have the CP person find something in Tyson’s and live there or nearby. Mosaic? |
| If you’re looking at apartments: Crystal City / Pentagon City / National Landing (whatever we are calling it these days) could work if you both metro and want to split the difference. You can transfer to the silver for Tyson’s at Rosslyn and it also gets you to college park on the Yellow line (direct). Lots of new builds with incentives in the area too. |

| Bethesda? That would be my pick. |
| Anything the minimizes driving in Virginia. Everything within mikes of Tyson’s is gridlock. |
| Driving towards MD is easier than driving tiiwards VA. If you gave kids 1 of you should be relatively close by. |
