Two different friends were bullied out of college by anonymous postings and my DC is living in fear that someone will say something mean about her. I can’t get her to delete the app, but I am hopeful her therapist will get her to remove it. It is crazy.

I’m so, so sorry. So glad she has a therapist helping her. Good luck and hugs to you all. 💗

It would be helpful to us parents in talking with our kids or perhaps being more attentive.

And though I smirked a bit when apps called these sites the college equivalent of DCUM, I view DCUM as something very different.

Yes, people can be aggressive and obnoxious when posting anonymously here. I’m not always 100% proud of how I show up. But thankfully, no one is called out by name on this site. Nor is this community small enough for individuals to be easily identified. Credit to Jeff, of course. But also to the larger scope of this site and community.

Going back to YY and Fizz, I’d really like to know which schools have kids using it to target individuals or cause real drama (as opposed to merely sharing info or blanket innuendos about this fraternity or that sorority as a whole.) The Washington College story was harrowing and tragic.

For purposes of talking to your child, assume that it is or could be any school. It only takes one person to call out an individual by name (or by specific description such that everyone involved knows who it is) and then teen/young adult judgment being what it is, everyone piles on.

Even "blanket innuendos" about a particular sorority can be harmful since each sorority is made up of actual, real people.

Our kids are not that soft. Give them more credit than that. These 'innuendos' have always been part of greek life and kid roll with it. Also if you have concerns about blanked innuendos why just sororities and not fraternities?

He and his Mrs S know who. And who has been good or bad. So be good for goodness' sake.

+1

I loved being part of my uncool/low tier sorority and was completely unfazed by whatever comments or generalizations people made about us.

But that’s very different than calling one of out by name on an app that’s read by much of the campus. 😢

Yes, of course.

AND I’m asking for actual school names from people who posted the specific examples above.
