| Alas YY is the college age DCUM. |
| YY and Fizz are so awful, especially for smaller schools. |
| How to sign up? |
+1. See DCUM |
| I asked my sophomore about YY yesterday and she said she looked at it a fair amount first semester freshman year but now only checks to see where the parties are on Friday nights. No greek life at her school so it’s not part of rush or anything |
| Fizz is causing my DC so much anxiety and depression that she had to go on meds. Two different friends were bullied out of college by anonymous postings and my DC is living in fear that someone will say something mean about her. I can’t get her to delete the app, but I am hopeful her therapist will get her to remove it. It is crazy. |
Fizz was started by the son of a cheating intellectual bully from my high school. The kid is a Stanford dropout. Based on the Internet, I strongly suspect his parents did a lot of work on his media-friendly childhood science projects. Fizz's founders got 10s of millions of $ to reinvent the Facebook concept anew for college campuses. Sometimes I feel like I'm just not scammy enough. How's that for a blind gossip item. |
| Isn’t it the college version of dcum? My son is on it for his school. |
My DD is on it at her school. I had no idea it outed/bullied people. Geez! |
People are called out by name. It isn't effectively moderated. |
| I am the mom who posted earlier about being on yy. I have not even heard of Fizz. Eep. |
They are both anonymous places allowing users to attack others without personal cost. |
| Social media ----- Mental health crisis |
And anonymous social media is even worse. |

Anyone willing to name schools where YY and Fizz are used to call out or bully individual kids by name?
It would be helpful to us parents in talking with our kids or perhaps being more attentive. And though I smirked a bit when apps called these sites the college equivalent of DCUM, I view DCUM as something very different. Yes, people can be aggressive and obnoxious when posting anonymously here. I’m not always 100% proud of how I show up. But thankfully, no one is called out by name on this site. Nor is this community small enough for individuals to be easily identified. Credit to Jeff, of course. But also to the larger scope of this site and community. Going back to YY and Fizz, I’d really like to know which schools have kids using it to target individuals or cause real drama (as opposed to merely sharing info or blanket innuendos about this fraternity or that sorority as a whole.) The Washington College story was harrowing and tragic. |
