GT isn’t even a flagship.

DP here. It is the highest ranked public school in it's state. Call it whatever you want.

Funny how UNC and GT boosters are so insecure.

Bless your heart.

It objectively isn’t. They only take high stats kids EA but take a lot of kids they deferred in RD. Acceptance rate is 33 percent and middle 50 percentile SAT is 1300 to 1470. It’s selective but no where near top tier selective.

Agree.
OOS from our DMV private the naviance for EA acceptance is 1400+ and top quarter GPA, some students who do not get in UVA EA in state will get in EA GA. For UGA who get deferred then IN RD our naviance shows average kids, 1300-1380, some lower than 1300, accepted GPA based on our school profile is a little above average for the EA-Deferred-accepted RD. UVA in state does not dip as low. It is used as a UVA backup for great but not top kids. Top kids use UVA as the backup to ivies, or use UNC-OOS as the ivy backup.

UNC OOS is a different level of selective compared to UGA-OOS, not as hard as ivies or Duke from our school, similar to UCLA and UCB: top 10% or just outside, 1480+. However we are a MoreheadCain nominating private thus our private seems to be preferred over other privates in the area.

You’re splitting hairs. Even if this is true, UGA is more of a peer to UNC and UVa than an actual average state school like Michigan State or Kansas.

Can't argue with you there. :/

Has UGA become the most popular SEC flagship in DC? Sure, more kids might enroll where it’s easier to get in like at U South Carolina, but in our school it seems like UGA is suddenly coveted the most.

UGA has always been solid academically. The Zell Miller and Hope scholarships helped changeUGA’s image as a party/football school by attracting in-state students with top stats. The demographics in Georgia (and UGA) have changed too, with all the Northern transplants and immigrants. Plus, the football championship effect. Plus people outside Georgia are discovering what a great town Athens is. It really offers everything for an academically strong kid who wants a well-rounded college experience.

UGA just reflects the value of the school for in-state kids whose parents are not going to pay full freight for a private or out of state public that they would have in the past.

UNC takes 18% OOS, not 8

18 is correct, but that also includes all recruited athletes. So, the space left for non-athletes is pretty small. It's 100% lottery for OOS kids.

My DC got into UGA last year EA and was given merit (we were full-pay). The early response, the fantastic tour and the cost being very low for OOS with merit made it a huge contender. If DC hadn't gotten into their #1 school, I think there is a good chance they would be in Athens right now. FWIW, we considered it a target and we're surprised when DC got in. That said, apparently a lot of classmates who ended up at other similar schools were waitlisted EA.

No one applies from our private.

No, the oos acceptance rate is NOT 18 percent.

I don’t understand why people get this wrong . The freshman class at unc is 18 percent oos stidents. The oos acceptance rate is about 8 percent.
