OOS rate is 25 percent, still not super low. Obviously oos stats included in the average SAT number. On the other hand, UNC is ridiculously hard to get into OOS, with an acceptance rate around 8 percent. |
For a state flagship, it's pretty competitive. They fill 80% of their class with In-state. |
| What has changed is that private school tuition is THROUGH THE ROOF and all of a sudden 42k tuition for an OOS public school sounds okay by comparison for kids who don't have an in-state option that suits them. |
|
UNC can only take 8 percent of students out of state.
UGA just reflects the value of the school for in-state kids whose parents are not going to pay full freight for a private or out of state public that they would have in the past. |
UGA is more competitive than most state flagships and apps are up again so this year’s stats will likely be higher along with a lower acceptance rate. UGA is much closer to UNC than say, Alabama. UGA is obviously hot right now. What’s your problem? |
yes. nothing new. I applied in 1996 and it was a good school then. |
| UGA has joined the Big 10 (UMich, Wisco, and IU) model from thirty years ago. Go find out of state kids who come from great high schools, have the scores, parents who can write checks, and will keep giving. Then go back once again when the next generation wants to go. |
Why are you so defensive? It’s objectively competitive but not super competitive. Just look at GA Tech, which accepts only 10 percent OOS. That’s in the same league as UNC in terms of OOS competitiveness. Or UVA, with a 15 percent OOS acceptance rate despite taking almost 40 percent of the class from OOS, UGA isn’t in the same tier as the other three, despite your claim its “ hot.” I’m a bit skeptical as no one from our private even applies but the other three are popular. |
UNC in-state acceptance rate is 43.1% |
| UNC has become a full pay to play school for oos. Lee Roberts is also a big tool as UNC chancellor. Will see if either issue affects overall rankings going forward. |
OP specified OOS. |
Georgia Tech last cycle was 9% OOS acceptance rate. Close enough
|
| GTech is a soul crushing hammer to the head. Sorry UVA and UNC should not be at all in the same breath. |
Are you an insecure GT troll? Nobody cares |
GT isn’t even a flagship. |
