Just got rejected today. My DC has 1580 all 5s. But slightly less rigor than sibling who attended. Also attends very competitive school. I’ve heard in the past few years Princeton is rejecting more during the early round instead of deferring “everyone” who isn’t admitted. Congrats to the kids who got happy news tonight. Princeton is an amazing school. |
I just looked up defferal rate and that popped up so not sure how accurate |
is this from today i want to understand if this is an issue for my application or just trend for this year. what were ur stats |
| Rejected. |
stats? |
I’m so sorry. My kid was WL last year and never got off it. It all worked out and I think he’s a better fit where he ended up. I wish your kid best of luck with the rest of them! |
| DC was deferred. DC public school, TO, 3.95/4.95 in an IB program. Has interesting ECs and probably strong LoR that keeps them in the running. Obviously very realistic about chances. The decision letter said they should send in mid-year grades and any other material by the end of January. What other material should they send? |
| DC was deferred two years ago and accepted RD. There is definitely hope and would recommend submitting a LOCI. |
Yes, it’s a hook. |
Yea. This rejection is from today. Historically Princeton used to defer a lot. But they haven’t released statistics about the early round in 4-5 years so no one knows for sure how many they defer/reject in the early round. Anecdotally, it seems like a lot more rejections in the past few years. |
Did your DC receive a Q1 grade report request? |
Not that they were aware of/told about. I am not sure their CC would provide that information though. |

CA Public HS
1570, 3.95/4.55 GPA 14 APs Deferred |
Yes, I definitely think it helps. From what my kids have said, lots of siblings attend together. But it could also be the case that the siblings' parents also attended, in which case they would be legacy. From my experience: first kid deferred, later accepted RD second kid accepted REA third kid deferred, later accepted RD. both deferred kids had very strong updates to put in their LOCI (e.g. awards, new commitments, etc). definitely submit one |
