Op, you are right-that comment was unacceptable and inappropriate. His reaction was also inappropriate. I'm sorry you experienced that. Unfortunately we live in a very ageist society as many of the comments here show.
I hope your coworker spent some time later reflecting on his rude behavior and changes. |
I was obviously referencing the earlier comment, which is why I used quote marks. Sorry reading is so tough for some.
|
I don’t. I’m older than most of them. I call myself old which is accurate and not an insult. |
You replied to a different comment so that ends up being what you reference in your reply. If you want to reply to the contempt comment, try scrolling to that one and replying there. Just like how I reply to your comment to explain how it works instead of some other comment. Do you understand now? I know it can be confusing. |
People who aren’t totally fvking idiots can follow simple, recent references within a thread. Sorry you’re still struggling. I’m getting a sense of what people in your office call you.
|
I'm guessing the pp is called "boss". |
Oh that's why you are struggling...you are old. |
Yeah, it just gets tedious. |
Of course she was! |
Only if you think “old” is a put down, which it’s not. You might want to reflect on why you think “old” is an insult. |
In the manner it was spoken, of course it was. You’re being ridiculous. Talk about tedious! |
| I think the follow-up comment of "you look good for your age" was worse than the original honestly. |
What “manner”? Based on what OP described, I definitely wouldn’t have taken it as an insult. |
|
The comment was mildly offensive and annoying but not anything I would get worked up about at all. He said it, you let him know you were offended, he apologized. I’d move on.

If she was, she didn't describe how. Being called old in and of itself isn't being treated "less than." |
