Idling in the bus lane outside of school hours

Why idle at all everyday? Turn off the car and stop polluting.

I don’t understand why all the other parents are also in the bus lane? Is it just pure laziness? They want their kid to be the first on the bus to TJ?!

Next step is the bus hits your car and you are found at fault. That's what Seattle city busses do. Is that what you want?

unless you have a magnet kid who rides the bus, this is hard to understand. early in the morning, all parents dropping off kids wait in the bus lane.

You all changed one person's attitude towards this for the better.

Cheers to you, OP, for reporting back. A rare instance of openness on DCUM.

I’m not understanding. Why are parents in the bus lane? Don’t you just drop your kid and go?

Then take it to the AAP board since us plebeians don’t understand.

We do understand - you guys are just being ridiculous.

OP, good for you for finding the parking lot.

If it’s freezing out I’ll turn the car on for the heat and shut it off after a minute. I feel guilty idling.

I honestly can't stand people like you OP. There are so many entitled magnet parents at these bus stops acting like jerks. Do not block the bus lane ever. You can idle off to the side or park in the parking lot. Why is there an issue parking if you're coming before or after elementary school hours?

Early in the morning the school lot is empty so people just pull into the bus lane. No, most parents wait until bus shows and it gets cold in the morning

Good for you, OP! (Not sarcasm)

So the lot is empty and you idle in the ONE AREA where a bus needs to drive? To pick up YOUR KID? The lot being empty makes you look like even more of a gross person, not less of one. Your kid can probably walk the additional 20 steps from your car.

Also, don’t idle your car.

Did you know that my child actually walks all the way to school? Even in the rain? He uses an umbrella and a jacket. He is 10 and it’s a little over half a mile. He enjoys the walk with his friend and declines my offer of a ride in bad weather.

Is your mind blown? Some kids can survive walking outdoors, even across an entire parking lot.

I still don’t get it. So parents are getting to school and sitting in the bus lane- with their kid in the car, and just waiting for the bus to pull up? Because why? Why wouldn’t your kid just get out when you get there and wait outside the school like a normal kid or go in if the doors are open.

And then what is happening after school? OP is again blocking the bus lane and sitting there waiting for her kid to get out of school? That’s weird. There’s a parking lot- it’s practically the same location. Or your kid can actually just ride the bus.

OP has already said she’s changed her ways. She’s realized she was wrong
But some of you are just obtuse.
Magnet buses pick kids up at local
Schools and take them there. I live in Burtonsville and one of our magnet pick ups is the Praisner library so it’s not just schools.
OP gets there, it’s cold, her kid could be young and she doesnt want to just drive off and leave kid there. If the bus is late or doesn’t show her kid is left standing alone.
So she waits til the bus comes. This in itself is no huge crime. We all know kids walking uphill both ways to school in the snow with no shoes but what OP is doing is not abnormal.

No, the bus lane part is abnormal. She presumably wouldn’t idle in a handicap spot at the library just because “well the library isn’t open yet and this spot is just for when the library is open”. When there were other spots 20’feet away. And when a handicapped person was honking at her. I mean… at least hopefully she wouldn’t, right?
