No, history-philosophy major who planned for years to go into politics and policy. Many internships.
Now can't stomach the thought and has to scramble for ... what? Plan B |
"Newsflash" : not everyone graduating is going into finance, consulting or accounting. Hope you were sitting down for that. Astra Zeneca doesn't hire its entry level researcher two years in advance. Neither does the Heritage Foundation, Wayfair supply chain or MoMA |
lol imagine waiting for these companies to hire anything meaningful in this market. Good luck. |

No job lined up.
International Relations major and no one wants to go into the government now under this administration. Looking into other areas until the regime change happens. |
| DS, marketing, applied to loads but heard nothing back |
My kid is a junior with a similar major, plus a foreign European language. Also worried for them for next year. What other areas are they looking into? |
We've looked into this - apparently, you aren't eligible for internships unless you're continuing your education in the fall - another year of college or grad school, etc. |
+100 Thank you. So sick of the smug finance types making their ridiculous claims and trying to fearmonger. |
| In most fields, please don’t encourage your kid to apply to jobs now. Even for entry-level roles, employers need someone who is available to start within the next several weeks. I run a team of 50. We typically have entry level roles that open up during the summer when people in these roles head to grad school. Don’t panic about your kid yet. |
Utterly false when the market is new grads. Most kids have something lined up from the summer work. My UVA kid had a lock in December on a position (think tank). Second child was lined up by GMU for Microsoft at this same time. |

Yes. Construction engineering

My kid is graduating with a masters in science. Her doors to jobs and further education have been severely diminished due to Federal cuts in worthwhile research. Plus she will have to compete with a bunch of laid off Feds.
I feel so bad for kids looking for jobs right now. |
| Yes, civil-engineering-major son got a full time offer after completing this summer’s internship. |
| DC 2026 grad has a job waiting at a company they’ve worked for every summer and winter break since freshman year. It has nothing to do with their major. DC is a D1 athlete. |
Depends on the company. My company will hire interns for the year after graduating, regardless of future education plans. We have Summer, Fall, Spring internship classes and usually the Fall interns and often the Spring ones are recent grads. |
