It's starting to get easier to get into college. Colleges seem to be acknowledging this with their behavior now.

Fee waivers based on income have existed for years, but not for everyone. We paid $0 for my child's applications last year and we're not low income.

That proves my point. Last year was the biggest applicant pool, and even then, lots of fee waivers. It has zero to do with ease of admission, it just increases the number of applicant which in turn makes a college look more selective when they reject most of them.

This.

Colleges are streamlining or dropping logistics hurdles, so it’s easier to *apply* to schools. That mostly serves to increase the number of applications and decrease the number of admits. It benefits the school and it’s appearance of selectivity, but doesn’t benefit most applicants.

^i should say, decrease the *percentage* of admits. The number presumably stays the same, or has even gone up in some cases where schools are expanding their class sizes.

Outside of T100, it was and is very easy to get into college. Unless the student has really bad behavior problems, they would get into most colleges outside of T100 regardless of scores and GPA.
