Really? You're not talking about the same Sidwell parents who assault staff, spread rumors about other students so their kids can get a leg up in college admissions, right?

You’re talking about those stories from 2019? We were not there then and haven’t encountered anything like this. I’m sure there are unpleasant people there, like anywhere, but our own experience has been that kids and parents are very nice

It seems like I have been surrounded by them my whole life. That is just how life works.

What is the real alternative?

The risk is that your children become snobby and elitist.

Maybe and maybe not. I went to school with the children some well known, well connected, very elitist families. My big takeaway was how many absolute dumpster fires were hiding under the surface.

Snobby and elitist and dumpster fire are not mutually exclusive.

We’d rather take the private school snobs than the public school ones.

+1 these types are all over the dmv with kids in public and private. OP, do you and count down the years your DCs have left like the rest of us. You are not enrolled at the school and you don’t have to engage if you don’t want to.

This is like parsing the differences between coyotes and wolves. Yes, there's differences, but they're basically all the same thing.

It's funny because coyotes and wolves are so different

They didn't go to private school so they wouldn't know this. 🥴😂

You’re going to have a tough time in this area. DC people are high achieving, high powered A-types. Even if they aren’t elitist or snobby, maybe you have your own hang ups that make assumptions based on looks.

Your best bet is a MOCO public school. Burke, Field, and SSFS did seem to have a more laid back parent body though. Especially Burke. The more progressive a school the less elitist the parent body in my experience. Now less elite doesn’t mean less wealthy or more welcoming. A douchebag is a douchebag regardless of whether they’re in Chanel or Birkenstocks.

As long as they are self aware, isn’t that just inevitable if they go through top schools and land a nice job?

no! You can be super smart and successful and also down to earth. In fact, I think the real elite people do not show off and more relaxed about the metrics.

+1000. People who feel the need to be showy about money and accomplishments generally are pretty insecure. But, insecure, obnoxious people are in all SES.

Beauvoir/Cathedral/Landon are most "keep up with Jones-y"

Coyotes and wolves are so genetically similar that they can have babies that can reproduce unlike, say, coyotes and giraffes. So, uh, joke's on you. Reminder: private schools are full of dumb kids too.

Norwood does not give off snobby or competitive vibes.

I have heard MOCO public schools are quite crazy when it comes to competitiveness over college outcomes. Not sure this is the laid back experience OP is hoping for.

NCS is fairly mellow if you’re into achievement.

“To strive is our vibe.”
